Yeah, I normally have a fairly high pain tolerance. But this was pretty bad I think I made it a bit worse on myself, I was crazy tensed up the entire time. My friends said that definitely makes it hurt more.

Owch, CS.. Mine was nowhere near bone, so it pretty much felt like a concentrated sunburn for a while. The worst of it was when he was shading the face. It actually bled.
@ Marque'd: I'm thinking of getting a JC-inspired tatt, as well, with "Love as Thou Wilt" written somewhere near it. Heck, I may just skip the flower and get the phrase... Words to live by. I think a full back piece would look absolutely exquisite on you... Not that I'd know for sure, having not seen you sans shirt... But still. One can imagine.
Mine will probably go on my leg... Possibly my other arm... I don't know. I haven't the body to show off a huge back piece, nor the money to afford it.

I kind of want 'love as thy wilt' as well, or maybe ''all knowledge is worth having', or something else underneath.
I know I'm going to get addicted as soon as I get one, so I may have several. xD;

Pain is transformation, transformation is pain.
Well, if it consoles you, it made something beautiful even more so.

Re: Tattoos and Piercings
It really depends on your pain threshold and the location of your tattoo. I've never cried or screamed for any of mine, but the one on my side/ribcage made me very dizzy after three hours of constant pressure against my ribs, and I had to focus to block out the pain from the one on my ankle. Other than that, my bird was almost painless (because I have a big ass) and the one on my shoulder was cake too.
Of course if you've ever experienced anything truly, sickeningly painful (for me it was cervix dilation) then it keeps it all in perspective.
Always remember to take some OTC pain medicine and eat a nice meal beforehand. It'll help with the pain. It's nothing that'll make you rip the arm of the chair off, I promise.

lollipop cuts: Did you notice that the outlining hurt more than the colouring? I think it was just a sharper pain than when there was shading...

Black ink is a special animal. The needle goes deeper and the artist usually has to go over the same spots more often. So yes, it does hurt more. Color is often very shallow in comparison.

lolli, did you get all your tats at roughly the same time or did you wait a bit?

I got one when I was 19, one when I was 20, and two in the past year.

Re: Tattoos
Not that I foresee this as a thread that will have a lot of mileage (since people won't need to post multiple times about their same tattoos), but I do! I've posted it before in the picture thread, but here it is again.
This is my tattoo of Coyote... he's sort of my totem, for lack of a better term. In Native American folklore he was a troublemaker and a brat, which suited me rather well. I found this particular design in a book when I was still a teen, and made a photocopy of the picture that I kept in my wallet for 7 years. Then one day I had the day off and decided, "You know, I've had this picture in my wallet since I was a teen and I still want it... I'm getting the tattoo today."
The guy who was there that day was named Morgwn, and I smiled as I said, "Interesting, you spell that in the Welsh fashion." He was so amazed that I was the first person outside of his family who knew that off the top of their head that he gave me the tattoo for half price. It took almost a full 6 weeks to completely heal up, and during that time I swear every person I played hockey against knew to bump me in that shoulder.

Re: Tattoos
Not yet but i intend to get one on my chest above my heart. My symbol [just the center part that Alison prefers to call a vajayjay], nothing large, just small. And on the exact oppossite a small pentacle.
oh and we do have another thread for Tattoo's and peircings [called just that] but its fallen into obscurity somewhere.
