Some people such as Scots wouldn't class themselves as British because they dislike the English. Many English would disclass themselves as British because of some of the bad things being associated with them.
This makes is awkward for me because I am quarter Welsh. Having a Welsh grandfather, but being born in Yorkshire, I would class myself as British. I am proud of my Welsh roots but proud to be English. Although even Welsh people have been given bad names aswell... 'sheeps*****r' is one of them. But I would point out that not all Welsh people are farmers.
But TBH I have also been known to take the p*** of the Welsh. It helps when you're laid back about things... I can basically go through life without having a care in the world
