He didn't blurt that out maliciously, so this can be salvaged. Gary needs to know when to lower his voice though.Artemisia wrote:Are we about to see the SS Garacy go down?

Come on Gary!
This girl is the one you might actually have a real relationship with.... I mean, rather than exploit your busted swirly talents, she used her brains (and sexy charms) to get you over your lockjaw; kept the creepy landlord lady from raising your rent; actually playing video games AND is going to college for a degree --- she's got brains AND looks.... stop being a dunce and treat her properly. sheesh

for someone as naive as Gary, is hard to "calm down" and use his quiet voiceCortez wrote:He didn't blurt that out maliciously, so this can be salvaged. Gary needs to know when to lower his voice though.Artemisia wrote:Are we about to see the SS Garacy go down?

i swear, i haven't wanted to reach though the screen and smack that boy upside his fool head this badly since paris. gary is the reason toilet bowls are designed to fit a human head.
but then again, so does any woman with healthy self-esteem.
yeah, she really does deserve someone better than gary, doesn't she?Kol Drake wrote:Come on Gary!

Well, that was frustrating.
Then again, I suppose we all keep coming back to watch the train wreck.

But that's a Gary problem, not a Gary+Tracy problem.Hescotti wrote:I realize Gary hasn't known her very long but...tact? Discretion? No, apparently not.
One of these days, his friends and the comic are going to have to address his total lack of social graces. But, hey, the joke has lasted for 900+ strips so far...
Always does for the latest strip. It's a known bug in the system that nobody can be bothered to fix.anifreik wrote:There seems to be a problem with the forum link on the comic page, it looped me back to the comic instead of bringing me here.
This is the problem with seeing Gary as an identifiable protagonist; he's just too much of a doofus for a sensible reader to want to identify with him. But then, I'm not sure that the writers really see him as a reader identification character. He's an old-fahioned hopeless geek who we're expected to laugh at, not laugh with. But the comic gets a lot of geeky readers, who instinctively identify with the geek protagonist. Cognitive dissonance follows.'J' wrote:yeah, she really does deserve someone better than gary, doesn't she?

What do you expect? He is surrounded by people with little to no boundary issues. Moreover his love and sex life has hardly been normal. It largely amounts to stumbling into sexual encounters and having one trick that makes him irresistible to women who defy the norms. It would certainly be helpful to learn social graces, but seeing as how his previous approach seems to be working why bother.Hescotti wrote:I realize Gary hasn't known her very long but...tact? He ought to apologize and leave. And the loan time on that game system she borrowed just jumped up 3-6 months minimum.

Well, she's definitely not Jacqui, earlier visual gags aside.

I think Dave just likes to write extremely loud and broad farce in general.Spidrift wrote:This is the problem with seeing Gary as an identifiable protagonist; he's just too much of a doofus for a sensible reader to want to identify with him. Gary just needs to add "sex" and "camgirl" to his list of words not to blurt out. (So far, he has only put "porn" on that list.)

Scenes like this are of course why he should bother. He'd really enjoy hanging out with someone like Tracy, with or without sex. But he's just going to alienate people like her.brasca wrote:What do you expect? He is surrounded by people with little to no boundary issues. Moreover his love and sex life has hardly been normal. No doubt. But that comes down to the same thing. Broad farce characters tend to be hysterical doofuses, because that's how it works. But hysterical doofuses don't tend to be people we want to identify with, or who we instinctively feel deserve wonderful happy endings. So when people come here expecting romantic comedy and get broad farce, they get confused.philippos42 wrote:I think Dave just likes to write extremely loud and broad farce in general.

All in all, it is utterly incomprehensible how she is - likely - still single.Kol Drake wrote:This girl is the one you might actually have a real relationship with....
