Part of the reason I've been looking at an emergency backup generator (one that's hooked up to my natural gas service and is hardwired to the house). Then again, down here on the Gulf Coast, we are so used to them that unless the house is destroyed, power is usually back up in a couple of days.

It's like tornadoes here in North Alabama. Unless it was a crap-ton of EF-4's and 5's like last year, we're usually up and running again in a couple days.
