Anyhow, it seems that Angel is suffering twinges regarding Richie. One wonders if her thing for Jerzy is very fundamentally childish; he's the childhood friend who she does't want to give up, and so treats sexually to reinforce the connection, rather than really having her own version of romantic feelings there.

Will certain people get upset if Angel's gender fluidity depends on who he/she's attracted to?

I get the impression that gender fluidity is still a rare and personal enough thing that there aren't yet gender fluidity activists complaining about fictional representations of the state being compromised. Anyway, Angel has already said "I know how to please a man, whatever he likes", and apparently made a point of presenting as male to Jerzy for seductive purposes - so it's already pretty clear that they are being depicted as having some choice about how they present when necessary, and that hasn't kicked up any shitstorms yet.

I imagine that Angel would be unhappy with a lover who never wanted them to present as the "wrong" gender, even when sex wasn't in prospect. But Jerzy doesn't have much problem with Angie, while Richie got used to Angel before Angie showed up in the shop, so that doesn't seem to be an issue with either of them.

I don't know. Jerzy seems tolerant of Angel as a girl and excepting of her as a guy. Richie seems to be into Angel regardless of which gender she wants to be.

No argument about Jerzy being tolerant/accepting, but Richie showed no particular signs of attraction to Angel when they first met and Angel was presenting male; the whole point about the later pet shop sequence was that Richie was suddenly perceiving Angel as attractively female and was getting hot and bothered by this. As Angel said, Richie "liked" that side of her.

Sure, Richie was polite about Angel showing up for the date is guy clothes, but hey, he's a polite guy, and he's been firmly told that this is a non-serious date, so he doesn't want to let himself get too enthusiastic. Then, when Angel produced the LBD, Richie was very happy to see it.
