Get ready for another wild and crazy contest, because...

Its the March Madness Nom-taste-ular Cook Off! (the crowd goes wild!)

For those that remember from last year, and for those that don't, the March contest is - you guessed it - a cook-off! Thats right, its a culinary contest to show off your kitchen skills. How to enter? It's so simple even Frankie could do it...

All you need to do is make your favourite recipe, be it snack, desert, main meal... whatever! Not a good cook? Who cares! Make the best damned PB&J the world has ever seen! Just have some fun and make the tasty happen!

The format is fairly straightforward. Make the food, take pictures of the food, tell us what it is and how you made it. All entries must include a recipe and step-by-step instructions, as well as at least one picture. If you only take one picture, it must be of the finished product. Also, to prove that you actually made your masterpiece and you didn't just swipe it off of google images, the picture of your finished product must include YOU (or if you're really uncomfortable with that, include something in the photo that let's us know it's the real deal, such as a personalized card to the forum or something).

Entries will be open until the 26th, and voting will end on the 31st. This thread is for discussion of the contest only.

While I don't have an idea yet as to what I'm going to make... last year, there was a passing comment that it didn't seem as though I didn't really throw myself into the contest as much as it's thought that I might. *Eyes with a playfully pointed glare at his fellow Mod DA, smirks* So I'm just giving fair warning that this year I'm going to try and think up something really different that will challenge myself as a cook.

And since we had such a great turnout with this last contest, I encourage everyone else to challenge themselves, too. My own cooking skills developed because my step-mother would ruin something as simple as spaghetti (true story), and I was determined to eat edible food if I had to make it myself. Things just snowballed from there. So let's see you all push yourself and try something that will impress the rest of the boards! :D

P.S. - I also resolve in this contest not to make something spicy! I'm really going out in uncharted territory here! =))

I know what I'm making too. It's something I've tried to make before, but less than successfully*. I do think I know where I went wrong last time, so we'll see. :-? It's getting entered regardless of how ugly it turns out looking. :))

*It tasted good, if a little underdone, just fell all apart.

I could make the best damn bowl of ramen you'd ever seen. :ymsmug:

Except I can't eat ramen. Stupid diabetes.

Liquids count too. Like if you want to make a shake or smoothie or something. Even crackers with peanut butter would be good enough for me.

Okay, so I actually ended up dreaming of cooking last night. And on waking up, I wanted so badly to cook that I decided to use my day off and make my entry. :D I've never tried to make risotto before, and it was an interesting experience. The goat cheese and the shallots mixed together for a very earthy flavor, and I'm glad I added the basalmic vinegar to the pork as it helped that flavor not get lost within the dish. By including the peas, it became an all-in-one meal. I'm glad I made as much as I did, because now I have plenty for tomorrow!

Not much gonna top that. :ymapplause:

Why couldn't this contest be held in the summer when I'm getting stuff out of the garden? With fresh ingredients like that I can cook circles around anybody.

WOW. Okay, that was some of the most typo-ing I've ever managed in one post. =)) I guess you shouldn't drink the cooking wine too liberally, huh? ;) Also, since Teach is having issues seeing the dish I'm going to repost the picture with Tinypic and hopefully that fixes the problem. She hasn't been able to see my last two pics, and they're both with imageshack. :(

edit: Okay, changed it to tinypic. If anyone has any problems seeing it now, let me know and I'll see if there isn't another image hosting site that would work well.

Its already march and its still 20 degrees F.

Beer maranade Ribeye with grilled potatoes and salad.
