Metaphoric broken hearts usually don't leave physical scars.

Well, the latter is not the only option, but on the out-of-verse plot level it's most likely - if Emily wasted all her time on "not letting anyone else live either", that would be just too sad for Shouri's work.

And, yes, those look like scars. Though the main one above the sternum seems weirdly far up for the heart...

Or rather a justification. Because it's not like, for example, Emily could expect a randomly met waitress to find out about her eventual demise and weep and a clumsy attempt to get her fired is the only solution. Unless she's this self-absorbed.

I just did a Google image search for 'heart surgery scar women' and this seems to be consistant.
