So basically... Steph laid one of the moth eggs that Leonard must've fired through the portal, which is how it wound up in the PMS storeroom.

is showing concern for them.
Mothworld is currently being annihilated. If Steph tried keeping her eggs there, they'd be doomed to extinction before ever having the chance to hatch. By sending sending them through the portal, at least some of them will have a chance to survive. It's a tough call, but it's the best one she can make at the moment.
