Why do characters say that line?

Don't they know that's an invitation for disaster? Right up there alongside "What's the worse that could happen?" One should never challenge "Worse". It will always find a way to defeat you.

Also quick question for the artist but why the divided panels for Brandy's arm in the previous page?

I know what is going to go wrong. It starts with an "S", and ends with an "i"...

Mmmm...by the way, what if those girls are human, one of them gets her neck broken because of Suki and they have to turn her into a vampire to save her life too? And then Lori has the idea of creating a team of vampire cheerleaders?

Not the safest thing to say but... well it could be worse.

Thats my guess too. Jovita dies, and this is why Lorna turns all her friends, so they wont keep dying on her

Jovita looks to be alive (or unalive rather) in the sparkle brightness of the far future. It's possible Brandy will get hurt here, but I'd don't think death is a problem for her any more tbh. I don't think I can see Brandy in that 'naming' scene, but that doesn't mean anything as Zoe isn't visible either.

Both Brandy and Jovita are shown in the yearbook photo back in book 1:
