He's robbing the place, isn't it obvious?
That's a bad reason for blowing the whistle tho.

if he has a whistle and is trying to use it to summon MP's or guards in response to seeing a "Jap", this must mean they are some form of military base on the eastern front. all those comic books must have been collected from US soldiers stationed there. if they were in America, there is just no way some recycling station worker would flip out about an Asian being present.

Wow, that was clever; I hadn't even thought about Suki setting off alerts like that.

That old man probably has swallowed too much war propaganda and is really paranoid about Asians. The government itself rounded Japanese-Americans and sent them to camps for fear of them being a Fifth Column. And while I'm not American, I think it was very unusual to meet Asians in many American towns at the time.washu wrote:if he has a whistle and is trying to use it to summon MP's or guards in response to seeing a "Jap", this must mean they are some form of military base on the eastern front. all those comic books must have been collected from US soldiers stationed there. if they were in America, there is just no way some recycling station worker would flip out about an Asian being present.
And if they were in a base somewhere in Asia or the Pacific, they would be used to watch Asian-looking people everywhere all the time. The weird thing would be to find white teens there. And no self-respecting soldier would flip over some asleep Asian girl, japanese or not.

Like a lot of minorities, US soldiers of Asian ancestry were really rare. Although the one unit that I can recall is also one of the highest decorated in the history of the military (the 442nd)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/442nd_Infa ... _States%29.Tako wrote:And if they were in a base somewhere in Asia or the Pacific, they would be used to watch Asian-looking people everywhere all the time. From the wiki:
But US or Pacific base, three kids, one of which is Asian, would definitely be cause for alarm. Maybe not every solider would react like this guy, but many definitely would. If it was just Katie and Leo, he might have chalked it up to childhood stupidity, but with Suki there, it completely changes the equation simply because of the war and propaganda. The record of the Japanese Americans serving in the 442nd and in the Military Intelligence Service (U.S. Pacific Theater forces in World War II) helped change the minds of anti-Japanese American critics in the U.S. and resulted in easing of restrictions and the eventual release of the 120,000 strong community well before the end of World War II.
However, the unit's exemplary service and many decorations did not change the attitudes of the general U.S. population to people of Japanese ancestry after World War II. Veterans were welcomed home by signs that read "No Japs Allowed" and "No Japs Wanted", denied service in shops and restaurants, and had their homes and property vandalized.
Anti-Japanese sentiment remained strong into the 1960s, but faded along with other once-common prejudices, even while remaining strong in certain circles. Conversely, the story of the 442nd provided a leading example of what was to become the controversial model minority stereotype.

Of course Leo could just say "Oh, the Asian girl here? Just feel her wrist for a pulse. She's quite dead so no problem really."renmei wrote:If it was just Katie and Leo, he might have chalked it up to childhood stupidity, but with Suki there, it completely changes the equation simply because of the war and propaganda.
The guy would probably give Leo a medal then.
Thinking he had killed the girl spy right then.

I wasn't speaking of soldiers of Asian ancestry. I'm speaking of the natives. If they were in a base in either Asia or the Pacific, they should be meeting Asian-looking people all the time, be they Polynesians, Filipinos, Taiwanese, Indonesians, Malasyans or whatever. If a soldier found an Asian teen rummaging their recycling stuff he would assume she was a petty thief looking for something to steal, or maybe a girl some soldier had brought for extra-marital hanky-panky, or maybe just a nosy teen who wanted to see the inside of the base.renmei wrote:Like a lot of minorities, US soldiers of Asian ancestry were really rare. On the other hand, if they are in some little American town in the middle of nowhere and that guy is some redneck who has never seen an Asian in person, he would be more likely to flip.

No, vampires don't have pulses.Storm-forge mystique wrote:...do they have pulses?Nightgazer Starlight wrote:Of course Leo could just say "Oh, the Asian girl here? Just feel her wrist for a pulse. She's quite dead so no problem really."
Neither do dead people y'know.
That's the whole point of feeling it.
Guard feels it, not there.
Guard just nods, she's dead.
Guard goes away, girl's finished.
Guard is relieved, spy's expired.

But do these vampires have pulses? Are they truly undead?

I assumed that was because they drink red blood.Adam Arnold wrote:They pee a color other than yellow.Sk'thloq wrote:But do these vampires have pulses? Are they truly undead?
It's not like they can eat normal food or drink normal drink then.
Or can they...?
Hmmm...
Well then, tell us... do they eat normal food and drink normal drink?

We've seen that they drink coffee mixed blood and melons filled with blood.

Yes.Adam Arnold wrote:We've seen that they drink coffee mixed blood and melons filled with blood.
But with the melons they were poking a straw through them to get at the medicinal blood packs inside. They weren't actually drinking or eating the melon. Just the blood packs inside.
Coffee, mixed with blood though.
So...
Are they capable of eating or drink normal food or drink, without blood?
I mean if they wanted to chow down on a Burger King tripple whopper, a large fries, and a caffeine free coke... could they do it?
Or are they incapable of doing that without blood added to the food/drink thing now?
