Pretty emotional. I am not handling my mom being absent for my dad's side of the family very well. They've been together 33 years, she has right to call them family whether they're blood related or not. I understand why she won't be there and stuff but it's... one thing to know and on thing to accept it, I guess. She's just.. going to lose family. It doesn't seem fair.

I am also irrationally angry at my dad. It feels like it's mostly on his side even though my mom has told me both of them were having issues. They won't tell me anything about it, though, so I can't confirm that. I feel like it's the stupidest decision he's making but, again, I don't know enough. It may end up being a good thing for both of them. Only time will tell. It'll hurt a lot, though.

I can empathize about the first part.
My Mom was the one who'd help organize family reunions, but after the divorce the people on Dad's side just seemed to ignore her existence.

I am very lucky in that regard. Both my grandmother and my cousin have made sure to tell my mom she's still welcome. My cousin told me she would take her kids to specifically visit my mom if she needs to. She considers my parents as a second set of parents. So Mom still has a lot of love from my dad's family.

It won't get better quickly, but ideally you get used to it over time.

HUGS, Yira. I'm sorry to hear that, but glad that your mother's family is still there for her. It isn't going to be easy for a long time :(

The thing that worries me most is Christmas Eve. After going to my maternal grandmother's, we usually head to their house and do a small exchange of gifts and I spend the night. Now it's all up in the air, I guess.
