Re: Beautiful Sceneries
Let's see, Java wants warm and sunny. How about the place my parents used to take my sisters and I camping? (sorry about the poor quality)
Not so sunny or warm:

You want warm and sunny? I'm sure at some point Ugo will get around to posting some of his pics from his time here so far.

Re: Beautiful Sceneries
You're welcome Java. I'm just sorry the quality of the pics wasn't very good. I'll have to go take some good digital shots at that camp ground this summer I think...

Re: Beautiful Sceneries
:) You're all so kind
I have to say it's a bit better this week though. There's still a couple of feet of snow on the ground but it's warm enough that it's not terribly icy this week. It's actually 27 degrees Fahrenheit (about -3 Celcius) today!

Re: Beautiful Sceneries
Here's some of the photos from my walk yesterday from Bundeena to Little Marley Beach and back again.
I took them with my iphone, and because the winter sun was so bright, all I could see was my own reflection when I was taking the photos, so I just sort of pointed, shot and hoped for the best. I think they turned out okay though.
It was fairly windy that day, so these two are to show how big the waves were in the little patch of ocean...
the waves you can see are easily person-height.
The rest of them are under here
PS: This is winter

I had a works outing today (actually it was on Friday, but it still feels like today).
Our trip took us to the city of Essen which I like for the changes from
idyllic village bits
to former coal mines now being used as museums.

I only wanted to revive that one, but I won't be uploading any sceneries until I've moved east.

Re: Beautiful Sceneries
I've been up the mountain a lot lately since the semester is over, the mountain being Kitt Peak National Observatory at the 12m radio telescope. I have many pictures, but here are a few for you.
That's the Mayall 4m telescope along with some of the others around it. The Mayall is absolutely impressive piece of engineering and you are allowed to go into the structure to the viewing area, which has has an amazing view of the surrounding desert (my memory card actually maxed out just as I was arriving at the 4m and I didn't get another chance to be a tourist due to my observing schedule, damn it).
Solar eclipse sunset at Kitt Peak. I took alot of photos of it, mostly through a ND filter made for an 8in telescope and also though a piece of welder's glass, which made everything look green and weird.
I just happen to like this shot. It's the McMath-Pierce Solar Telescope, shot at an extreme angle. I kind of wish I headed up to it for the eclipse, since it was a bit of a carnival atmosphere up there (people running around tearing their clothes off, astronomers doing keg stands, scientists having orgies in the name of the Sun God that all scientists secretly worship, et cetera), but I just had to grab dinner and head back to the 12m for my shift.
