Yes, not new as an overall trope, I meant it's a new element compared to the previous PTC strips.

Yeah, but there's a difference here that you're all missing. Sure, there's a scrawny nerd guy with hangups, a tall blonde who's allegedly attractive, and a girl whose name starts with Z. However, one very important detail is nothing like Ma3, in such an incredibly profound way that I'm surprised it hasn't occurred to everyone already.
See, in this comic, nobody's suddenly died off-screen like that Matt character from the first couple dozen Ma3 strips.
