Studio Ghibli Movies to US 2009

Post by Ryokosha »

I've just heard of that Disney should be releasing Studio Ghibli's Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea this year which is some exciting news to me a fan of Ghibli movies.

Equally exciting from my view, since the rights to Sci-Fi channels questionable mini series "Earthsea" expires in or has expired as of Jan 1st 2009, we may finally get a Region 1 release of The Tales from Earthse that doesn't require a region free player. Though reviews seem to be mixed on this movie, it will still nice to see it finally.

Is anyone else looking forward to either of these movies? Or has someone seen one or both of them?

I haven't seen either of them, but I have a Tales from Earthsea CD on my computer. The music for the image album is amazing.

I am just eager to see some 'new' Ghibli movies, it feels like it has been a lot longer then it likely has...

It has been that long hasn't it? The last new one released in the US was Howl's Moving Castle I think...

I have hopes that Only Yesterday may come out on DVD.

Ni no Kuni is coming to the DS sometime this year.

I would love to see Only Yesterday on DVD. I saw it once when it was on TCM but that was now about four or so years ago when TCM aired those straight nights of all Studio Ghibli movies out at that time (I think). I loved that movie then and looked in vain for even just a subbed version on R1.

Any thing you might have heard about this possibly coming to R1 DVD?

UltimateDisney.com's section on Ghibli movies says that there are no plans for a DVD release. But they released Pom Poko here, so there's a chance they may still release it here.

Ah well, then I will sit with you hoping to get Only Yesterday released and still see Earthsea released sometime this year.
