So...does this mean Gary and Zii aren't going to have mutual pity sex?

They're both just realizing that they are in some kind of open relationship. Maybe give more time than one strip?!

I like how Gary has matured enough to take apart Zii's BS (he maybe learned some of it from Peggy, who is a master at cutting through delusional/deflecting remarks).
While Gary is making sense, it doesn't quite apply to DiDi, since she isn't really capable of being in a romantic relationship, which is what Zii used to have problems with before she gained the aforementioned DiDi. I'm not sure what I'm getting at here, just pouring out a thought process; I guess, the end point is that Zii is a deeply flawed, selfish person, and DiDi is selfishness incarnate, thus could never function as a couple, and it is basically luck that lust had kept them together for the few months(?).
I appreciate how a pity screw or even a pity party are being not only avoided, but also the emotional turmoil is being addressed to an extent, which helps emphasise the growth Gary has experienced - true, he still has weaknesses and moments of wallowing in aimless introspection, but he now might be able to actually help the emotional child of Zii.
Though, if Zii starts to regain composure, maybe Gary will allow his own self-pitying out again (which might risk a relapse, but that's only in one of the worst cases).
Anyways, kudos for reigniting the flames of my interest: I never lost interest, however, the egotists getting their way so much made it a bit of a chore, but seemingly things are moving on.

Gary's logic works except that it's being applied to Didi.
"Just let Didi do what makes her happy."
Great advice if you're into enabling solipsistic hedonists.

Re: 05-05-18 Other people not her
We as readers get the benefit of seeing all of Didi's reactions & interactions & internal monologue. Despite living with her, Gary doesn't fully have that luxury. Plus he is treating her like a human being, perhaps giving her the benefit of the doubt that she isn't selfish and addicted to orgasms. Didi has generally been kind to her roommates (cooking breakfast, happy to help out using her amazonian strength, etc.) and gives empathetic remarks. The trouble is that her Didi Effect gets in the way of these two (indeed, most anyone) from seeing past her problems and realizing she needs an intervention. Also giving Didi a very small benefit of the doubt: she just has been able to achieve orgasm despite years of trying. Gary & Zii have had little difficulty doing so, factoring out Zii's latest libido crash. So, Gary's logical remarks to Zii work from their point of view.
That being said though, the rug has to be laid down first before it can be taken out from underneath you. The logical argument is laying the foundation for another round of hijinks... possibly helping Zii also realize that Gary has matured a bit more too. It did not go unrecognized that the TV set is in panel, so the porno pity party isn't out of the gag yet. Zii might have noticed, no that she is becoming more aware of things other than her own problems, that Gary was also looking in the dumps on re-entry to their apartment.
The real problem I'm concerned about Didi, though, is that she forgets her previous lovers' names... presumably because she did not get what she wanted from them and completely reboots her relationship software. If Zii isn't able to keep Didi's interest, should Zii worry? I mean, she should worry, but should she worry that Didi will discard her for the next 'big thing'? Also, wrestling.
Also, hi Lita!

Re: 05-05-18 Other people not her
So Gary's reversion to his old bad habits and worse posture was strictly temporary, at least for now; the writers have apparently decided that he's going to be 100% chill dude from now on, with just occasional normal human levels of occasional unhappiness. Fair enough. Comic in wrap-up phase. And yeah, this strip makes the mutual-pity-sex option look quite a bit less likely somehow, what with Gary being all adult and Zii's loss of libido being emphasised -- but sure, there's still everything to play for.
(I now have visions of it seguing into the SDB closure story by having Gary calm Zii down, and maybe Zii helps Gary get a bit more in proportion, so they've both reached fragile equilibrium, and then Ruby storms through the door saying "I need advice from someone who understands men!", followed by <flashback>...)

Good point. The characters may live with DiDi, but they don't get the readers' power of seeing just what a monster of selfishness she's become. Must remember that.worldshaking00 wrote: ↑Sat May 05, 2018 10:59 amWe as readers get the benefit of seeing all of Didi's reactions & interactions & internal monologue. The other question would be whether an intervention would do any good with DiDi. God knows it'd be kind of nice to see someone yelling some home truths at her, but she's been consistently written as being 100% able to ignore anything that doesn't suit her.worldshaking00 wrote: ↑Sat May 05, 2018 10:59 amThe trouble is that her Didi Effect gets in the way of these two (indeed, most anyone) from seeing past her problems and realizing she needs an intervention.
In other words, Gary is rephrasing DiDi's own arguments from an adult point of view. Fine so long as it doesn't just end up enabling DiDi's selfishness.worldshaking00 wrote: ↑Sat May 05, 2018 10:59 amAlso giving Didi a very small benefit of the doubt: she just has been able to achieve orgasm despite years of trying. That’s not even a fair suggestion, in my opinion. If you don’t want your partner sleeping with other people, then you don’t want your partner sleeping with other people. Low libido is something they should work through together. If Didi loves her enough, then they’ll make it through. If she doesn’t (which she obviously doesn’t because she ran out of the room to go have sex in the middle of a heart to heart), then Zii should find out now and let it be done with. I never disliked Didi until recently. For a while I just thought she was too dumb to know what she’s doing. But she’s not just dumb. She’s self-centered to the nth degree.

I'd strongly agree with that generally, but given Zii's previous fondness for maximum openness in relationships, including cheating on Yuki all over the place back in the day, Gary has a point when he says it's a bit much for her to object to DiDi working the same way now. Especially as she got into DiDi's pants by, frankly, offering her maximum screaming orgasms.
None of which makes DiDi a nice person.

It would be one thing if Didi hadn't had sexual relief for months at a time (like she had for years prior to her first orgasm); but it's been three days - three days! - and she was already looking for a replacement lover (with a woman she's barely known a few hours, even!) because Zii was going through a personal crisis that prevented her from seeing to Didi's needs.
Yes, not getting sexual satisfaction for years had to suck something fierce; but you don't treat people you actually love like that (making her whole 'I truly love you because we have a deeper connection' speech to Zii seem like a complete load of BS of Didi's part).
I honestly hope Zii and Gary to have some pity sex (Zii can finally see why the SGR is such a big deal) while Didi's intent to have sexy times with Lynn falls though. Iwonder - if Didi were to arrive home to find Zii had slept with Gary, would Didi feel betrayed; despite the fact she's the one who ran out of the house the moment she heard 'our relationship should be open' and chose to see it as permission to screw around? Because I personally wouldn't be surprised to see Didi as being the kind who'd play the double standard card when it comes to open relationships.
Please, don't come to me expecting me to fix your problems.

Re: 05-05-18 Other people not her
So.. this is how it ends right?
These two end up watching porn. Sparks Zii's urges. who is in a newly open one.
They get to shaking.
Didi, who found out her original plan was currently busy (and will try again later) or situation didn't live up to her hopes, will come back, find the two together.
and join.
Then we'll havet he ME3.
though at some point it'll disappoint her (or she'll have no acceptance of the whole situation and rebel immediately) and or Peggy will end up leaving for her own life
leaving Zii and Gary.
Since that seems to be predestined to some extent in this.
Bleh.
