I mean, that makes sense, but we should also remember, she recruited Gary, because she knew James had some pretty serious hangups about the kinds of things women should and shouldn't do or what counted as degrading, at least in his eyes. Her first time meeting Gary was in a female gang licking with a gaggle of porn stars. She probably figured Gary just wouldn't care about any kind of moral or gender implications, which did turn out to be true in the end

Re: 04-11-17 Go out with me
The problem with that is though they may have "officially" split up, James is still very much in the picture, and still at least partly influencing Tracy's actions - like Spidrift says, there's much unfinished business there. Plus James has his own designs on Gary, which means our hapless protagonist is going to find himself caught between both of their attempts to seduce him.Fluffy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 10:53 amPay in mind; what changed her? Easy answer - James. She was so eager to please her idiot boyfriend that she was blind to the fact that she was acting like a vain twit, as a result.
Now that it seems they have split up; Tracy may very well return to her originally sweet natured, free thinking self.
It'll be like Yuki vs Sonya all over again, only with one of the suitors being definitely unwanted; best he at least try to stay clear of that mess. Otherwise, like the toy being fought over by the two hyena cubs, he could end up being severely mangled (and the Sonya vs Yuki thing did end with him being injured, as I recall).

But she manipulated Gary into things by trickery and lying. Of course she had good logical reasons from her own selfish point of view, and of course Gary-the-human-sponge didn’t object very much. That doesn’t make Tracy a good person.Swiftwinged Doom wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 12:31 pmI mean, that makes sense, but we should also remember, she recruited Gary, because she knew James had some pretty serious hangups about the kinds of things women should and shouldn't do or what counted as degrading, at least in his eyes. Nor has she played fair with James, for that matter; she still doesn’t appear to have told him about her camgirl job. Very likely, she reckoned it’d trash their relationship if she did, because of his hang-ups, but if she wanted the relationship to endure, how long did she reckon on hiding things from him?
Or, for a real miracle of maturity, he could say “Fuck it. James, it wasn’t me, it was a grapefruit. Tracy, I don’t owe you any more favours, so if you don’t tell James about your second job right now, I’ll forget all this new social competence malarkey and accidentally tell him myself. And both of you — the door is the square thing in the wall oh bugger this is an open-plan office.”

Much as I'd love to see that (especially the last part ), I don't think Gary's new spine is up to articulating all that. A simple "NO! Leave me alone!" and him running away would suffice.

She made two points.Swiftwinged Doom wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2017 9:28 pmSo apparently he's GOT to lock her down now? Why? Why is he under any compunction to HAVE to be serious with her beyond it being a desired ship for you. And For that matter, WTF are you raging about?
You claimed Gary has a crush on Tracy. She pointed that Tracy is nothing to Gary, just another sexy piece of ass (he's only had feelings, afawk, for Kiley, Yuki and Zii).
You claimed Peggy will never again want a boyfriend. She pointed that Peggy only said she needed a little time, and that was months ago. She might be ready now.
She pointed all your mistakes and refuted them fair and square. Suck it up. No need to start bitching and jump to personal attacks. Forum writers must observe a minimum of decorum.

Now I'm wondering if Giz ever dated some bloke named James who had weird taboos against fellatio/cunnilingus -- and eventually broke with him after smashing a plate of spaghetti in his face.

He got the little hearts over his head indicative of something desirable at the end of the sex cam arc, somewhat wistfully acknowledging that she only saw him as a friend. He even mentioned to Peggy during one of their trysts that he found her super sexy and had hope in shared interests, but backed down because she hooked up with James before he made a move. No one's arguing undying love or anything, but he definitely likes her a bit beyond just that she's hot.Vitocap wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 3:12 pmShe made two points.Swiftwinged Doom wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2017 9:28 pmSo apparently he's GOT to lock her down now? I never said Peggy won't WANT a boyfriend again. That's nonsense. I said GARY doesn't HAVE to treat her like his serious girlfriend if she suddenly decides to spring on him they have to get serious and he decides he doesn't want to. If he wants to have sex with and see any of the other girls, he's more than free to do that without reprecussion or reprisal from Peggy. If he decides of his own accord that he wants to make her his main squeeze, fine. That's his choice. But he has no reason to cut out all other options as of now just for her or just because she wants to assume total rights to him without his say so.
She refuted nothing. And for that matter neither did you. All you did was try to poke holes in make believe arguments I never made. And as for the lecture about decorum? You can kiss my foot. I will not tolerate a forumite being aggressive at me as Fairy did without response. Furthermore, you are not a mod. You have no right to make lectures to me on behavior or tell me to 'suck it up' for having an opinion you choose to disagree with. If there is a problem with my behavior, I'll hear it from the mods and respond accordingly. Until then, keep your patronizing bullshit to yourself

Re: 04-11-17 Go out with me
Doom do shut up. The forum is too small for all the yelling.
Peggy might be ready for a casual boyfriend considering james the second was a fiancee.
Good deal of the problem is how time is tracked in the comic. Rarely do we see out side, a clock, or a marker season. As a result things literally drag on for far too long.
The run up to that battle of the bands took the equivalent of four months maybe. Longer than the actual wait to the date.
How long has Didi been in wrestling school? How long has it been since Gary's birthday? Middling questions...

Re: 04-11-17 Go out with me
*sigh* I remember when I came to these forums and the worst thing that could happen was someone didn't like the strip. That was many years ago. Now I come to the forums of the two active comics and one we can do nothing but complain about because of how wearying it is, the other has intermittent problems with personal attacks and spats. Both have been problems before I came, I know, but now they seem to be happening more often (or maybe I'm just noticing them more?).
Either way, I hope Gary maintains his backbone tomorrow and tells it like it is to these two morons. There's really no other way for this to remain in my good graces.

Re: 04-11-17 Go out with me
Fifteen years ago, I vigorously described myself as feminist and had a lot of faith that someone describing themselves as "feminist" meant good things about them. Sometime around ten years ago, I twigged to the fact that there are some people who use the label as a cover for toxic ideas, and decided it meant they weren't "real" feminists. By somewhere around five years ago, I had completely stopped bothering trying to describe myself as a feminist and gave up trying to pretend that the label as used out in the real world had any meaningful relationship with the ideals that I still believed in.KittyHat wrote: ↑Sat Nov 04, 2017 6:04 pmThis.
I used to describe myself as a "feminist," but now, if you ask me whether I'm a feminist, I'm going to have to ask you what you mean by "feminist." Because my answer could be anywhere from "yes, of course" to "OMFG not just no but HELL NO" depending on the version of "feminism" in question.
It simply is not a useful or meaningful word any longer because it's become too broad. That's not to say that no writings described as "feminist" have meaning any more, mind you -- just that the term itself encompasses too many different and often directly conflicting ideologies to be of any real use any longer.
James still comes off as a pretty weird character to me, but I'm liking the fact that we've seen some character development out of Gary.
Okay, since I bothered to find my password and post, I'll make a prediction: Two steps forward, one step back. Gary retreats behind some particularly flimsy excuse, and shenanigans ensue. Then Gary comes clean about the grapefruit.

It would be so brilliant if something like that happened, but even with Gary's newly formed spine, it seems like wishful thinking... or fanfiction. ;)Spidrift wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 2:47 pmOr, for a real miracle of maturity, he could say “Fuck it. Hell, with the fact that the prior threesome - desired by James and orchestrated by the insecure and lying Tracy - was abandoned by Gary before it truly began, I'm willing to believe in some wishful thinking.

Well, I can’t actually see Gary delivering that speech as such. (He may be more confident now, but we haven’t seen many signs of increased self-knowledge, just for one thing.) But he might, just, manage something to the same effect, but politer and spread over three or four strips.
Or, yes, two steps forward one step back is a possibility, because comedy.

After all this discussion, the one question I have... Is Gary supposed to be sitting at a desk?? It seems weirdly open behind him.

He has his own desk, he doesn't have his own office.
