Lita is going to claw you if you let her go, Sonya.

I actually loled at this.

Aaaand frankly, Sonya deserved this, she was quite smug many time... and I don't feel that things will be so good between Zii and Didi...

Huh, even if it was blatant, didn't expect DiDi to realise that Sonya was aiming to break up her and Zii, though, it seems, the reasons of *why* are either unknown to DiDi or she doesn't care. Nevertheless, still owe DiDi some credit for being considerate of someone else's feelings for once, arguably wasted on Zii, but c'est la vie.
Surprised that Sonya seems to have thrown in the towel... Maybe she will have a scheme later, but for now she seems truly despondent (the absence of an audience to indulge her drama-love supports this notion). Perhaps it is belated karmic retribution? Although seems a tad disproportionate to this situation.
At the end of the day, Zii didn't learn any empathy, but at least did show some sympathy... For Lita, the cat that prefers Gary over her. Hahaha!! Still, poor Lita, uprooted from her home, then left stuck in a situation that a normal cat would hate; can only guess how a super smart cat would be feeling!
Anyway~ I don't consider Zii asking if Sonya wanted her to stay as genuine kindness or a sign of empathy, but rather the merest sense of obligation, as well as her probably not enjoying the feeling of being "the bad guy."

Oh Zii, can you really begrudge Sonya this one last chance to bury her face in your pussy?
Yet still, I live...

Is it me, or is Zii becoming increasingly more obnoxious and unlikable? Maybe it's just because nothing she does ever results in real consequences, but I'm beginning to find I can't stand her.

Hmm. One of the rare occasions that we've seen someone really badly cut up after a break-up in this comic - not unique, of course; Zii was hurt after Erik dumped her, and Yuki gets worked up over Gary from time to time. I have to say that the punchlines on the ensuing gags were funnier in the past, whereas this feels like an actual downer strip with a gag so weak as to be ineffective. The fact that Sonya's crying is depicted as comedy "boo hoo hoos" just makes it more jarring.

Or perhaps I just like Sonya too much. Certainly, given the choice between her and a plastic inflatable autistic amazon, I'd go for Sonya every time. (Yes, she's nuts - but at least it's an entertaining sort of nuts, and she engages with the world around her properly.) Either Zii has crap taste, or the DiDi Effect just doesn't transmit through the fourth wall well enough.

Meanwhile, Zii again has the grace to realise that she's caused someone else pain -- but whether she can bring herself to try and deal with it somehow, rather than just running away, remains to be seen. Especially as the problem this time is harder than the first time she realised that she'd hurt Sonya.

Uh, the "why" is hardly a mystery; Sonya made it clear in words of one syllable.

She's been hit hard, but we've seen before that Sonya (a) bounces back, and (b) loves scheming. She's highly likely to come back, gunning for revenge. (And Sonya has the looks to make a proper Fury.) Zii may have made herself quite a serious problem here by falling for Sonya's romantic declaration without thinking about the consequences of not taking it entirely seriously.

Even in settings where "karma" really exists, it's very rarely proportionate. (Kind of a classic theological problem, actually.) And Giz and Dave don't play those games; they just assume that actions have consequences, which make stories.

(Hmm. "Karma" is a western misunderstanding of an eastern philosophical idea, and perhaps we should indeed replace it with something more classically Greek when talking about Ma3. The gods have laws, and may or may not punish someone for breaking them - but any punishment is going to be arbitrary. Actions have consequences, sometimes... Also, Zii, Sonya, and Yuki would indeed be great casting as the Furies...)

That's the best we can expect from most people, really. In itself, it makes Zii a fairly decent person, but only for now. The real test is whether she makes any more efforts to fix the consequences of her actions.

Yeah, I find it more and more difficult to sympathize with her, too...

Did anyone ever really sympathise with Zii? That was never the point of her character, even when she was at her most likable. She's always been an irresponsible trickster who runs away from problems, and who's nothing like as clever as she thinks she is. The point, if any, is surely to want her to learn and grow a bit, because if she starts taking responsibility and recognising her own limitations, then she'll merit sympathy -- but probably won't need it, because she'll be an effectively fairly good person.

I did. And I hated Sonya. But it's totally vice versa now. Zii and DiDi are selfish bitches and Sonya is a victim of the circumstances.

She's always been like that. I've hated her guts since day 1

She has always been that way and in my opinion this is pretty low on the Zii scale of dickery. She at least attempted to talk about it.

And sometime next year, it'll probably be the other way round again, and your feelings will flip-flop accordingly. There's probably some kind of boring moral here about rushing to judgement. But the point is that these are relatively complicated characters (I mean, nothing like realistically complicated, but given a bit of light and shade), with good and bad sides. So of course they sometimes look better than at other times.

And it's not like any of them did anything terribly new here. Zii chased her own obsessions and failed to consider consequences, Sonya took advantage of Zii's weaknesses and failed to think how stuff might work out in the long term, and DiDi is an idiot. That's just like they were in volume 1. Why should anyone's opinions of them change?
