Damien, stop being a stereotype-prone jerk. A man who delivered that "hot" line in real life would be in line for a verbal slap-down at the very least, pretty boy or not.

Actually, jerkiness aside - I somehow always thought that Damien was quite aware of his effect on women, and cheerfully exploited it to enhance the gym's revenues. But no, that doesn't fit if he thought those two were lesbians; he's as clueless as the rest of the cast. Sigh. My mistake.

And that's the second "showering together to save energy" gag we've had in this comic. Is this a Montreal heating costs thing?

He could be trying to have Maura & Tess more interested in portraying lesbians in their wrestling pair identities... although that might be a minor stretch. Lesbians might be his fetish. Still need more data before I fully form an opinion on Damien, but it has been a while since we got a whiff of a steaming pile of human-feces. Might be time, although I think that the bumbling of the rest of the cast usually provides enough insight into failure that we really don't need yet one more bad dude.

Side note: I wonder if this is a common theme in 'boss'-types in Ma3... having them be scum-bags and/or manipulative. Jung forcing Zii to dress in sexy cosplay, Gary's boss (sorry, forgot his name this early in the AM) being a total douche-bag. I feel I am forgetting someone (once again, too early in the AM).

Honestly, that's all stretching too far. He's just an ordinary heterosexual guy with the typical guy thing for hot girl-on-girl action. Heck, it'd be hypocritical for a lot of fans of this comic to say that makes him a bad guy in itself. What makes him look like a jerk is going on about it to a woman with whom he's in a basically professional relationship. In the real world, that'd be borderline sexual harassment; even in Ma3, it makes him look a bit sleazy.

He's not looking like a monster yet. He's just prone to dumb stereotypes ("Two girls who are good friends and hang out together? Must be lesbians!") and shows no respect for normal social boundaries (speculating about someone's sex life to her face). A jerk, not a horror show.

The last character who I recall talking like this was Matt to Peggy, and he's not anyone's boss. Ma3 bosses are just bosses in a traditionally constructed comedy, so of course they abuse their power in trivial ways. Because comedy.

And yet Tess is doing just the opposite. She might even start thinking she's into girls. It's as if the Tempests are starting to match their Eerie Cuties IQs.

Right. Damien seems to lack some tack, but i wouldn't put him on the other scumbag bosses we've had. In fact, he seems very supportive of his girls from what we've seen in the past.

Also, isn't it a bit of a double standard to condemn Damien for "crossing boundaries" with his speech and yet be fine with Tess using the wrestling practice with him to arouse herself? I think both are casual enough with each other to not care about the specifics of a professional relationship.

Well, yes, Tess getting off on grappling with Damien is a bit skeevy. That said, we have no evidence that she's grabbed him anywhere inappropriate, or caused him to do anything that he wouldn't possibly do in any training session with anyone. If someone enjoys that kind of thing in ways that the other person doesn't realise, how bad is it? And to be honest, he must realise that he's pushing some women's buttons when he piles on the charm while trying to sell them extra lessons.

Beyond which - two wrongs really don't make a right. Damien can be a jerk and Tess can be skeevy at the same time.

You know I had thought in the back of my head that as part of her "competing" Maura might try and offer Gary a threesome with her and Tess, a "tag team" if you will. If that was to happen it seems like the perfect time to ask Tess about it for comedic purposes would be just after she has started thinking / talking about them together.

I remembered another one of the boss-types who was a real POS: the producer(?) in SDB who was exploiting his power/influence.

Dates, random sex, even some marriages have been the result of mutual skeeviness on both parties. While it is true that Damien might be just acting out a hetero-male lesbian fetish (q.v. Coupling's Lesbian Spank Inferno episode), I am hoping that the creative team are throwing us a curveball with Damien not being fleshed out to us yet. Damien has to know that Roxie is gay, yet he's not going ga-ga over her. Maybe Damien opened up this wrestling gym just to indulge his fetish? And a few extra $ on the side never hurt either. Or maybe he really is an avid wrestling fan/promoter and he is trying to persuade Tess to act up being more lesbianish to bring in more spectators to the gym/studio/sport who also have a deep-seated fascination with lesbians glomming onto one another in a ring.

Even assuming that Roxie isn't Damien's sister - which is a theory with minimal supporting evidence that I still can't quite discard - note that straight men don't, by and large, actually want women to be lesbians. After all, lesbians would reject them. They want twice as many hot naked horny chicks and no male competition. Which hardly needs much explanation.

Nor do I for one need to go to Coupling for examples of male fantasies about hot girl-on-girl action, great though that show was. One can find plenty of examples in any random heap of porn aimed at straight men. Heck, I for one can find ample examples in the skeevier recesses of my own imagination. It's not a fetish, it's a routine fantasy.

And the name you're looking for is Nathan, and he first appeared in Ma3. And while the plots he appeared in are funny enough, he's just another very conventional comedy horrible boss.

Comparing him to Yvan may be instructive, though. When Yvan talks about women as objects, it confirms that he's a jerk who deserves a kick in the balls. When Damien does the same, he's just another Ma3 character. I'm not certain that the difference isn't just that Yvan is physically ugly.

If the comic had time and space to do it, I'd be darkly amused by a story in which Maura and/or Tess succeeded in snagging Damien, only to find that he's a totally selfish lover who treats his girlfriends like interchangeable objects. (You know, like DiDi but aware of what he's doing and without the hypnotic powers.) Enabling guys who treat women as objects is likely to lead to ... women being treated as objects.
