Do Seven Seas license novels?

Post by Puuuuuth »

I have read and re-read the No Game, No Life (by KAMIYA Yuu) novel multiple times and I just love it. Seven Seas has licensed the manga. Would they be interested in doing the novel? I will most certainly buy a copy if they do.

Well, past posts by Adam Arnold strongly suggest that is highly unlikely.
Grand Low Maker of Mischief, Claw of Chaos, Fang of Anarchy

politics: n. pl. from the Grk polis, meaning many, and the OE ticia, meaning blood sucking insects.

Sevens Seas actually licensed some novels back in the day. Unfortunately none of them sold well, so they all got dropped. So they're a bit worried about licensing novels.

We don't have any issues licensing light novels. In fact, some of the light novels we've released (like Strawberry Panic) sold very well. The problem is largely that light novels cost three to five times more than a single volume of manga to produce and run upwards of 10+ volumes. And let's not forget that the manga market quite literally imploded in on itself exactly when we were trying to launch a light novel imprint. If there's a title that is right for us (light novel or not), then we'll bring it out.
