Actually, the only bungles that Ruby is aware of were the honest accident with the drinks and this one faux pas. She may find out about the "bracelet" eventually, but she hasn't yet (and she may be willing to put that in with the mistake she's just about to forgive now).

We readers can see Andy as more of an idiot than Ruby can so far. And as it turns out, she's a nice person, with a yen to at least try a kiss, so she'll probably cut him more slack yet.

Okay, this may not end as disastrously as first thought.

Andy is getting a string of lucky breaks. Ruby's total naivety let him get away with the cock ring, her BSOD moment saved him from the chance of her going ballistic at the idiot question, and her curiosity is going to keep the date going. By rights, she should have either exploded or ended things with cool politeness by now, but no, she's hanging in there.

Given that he's quite such an idiot, one does wonder if the relationship will keep going, with her tolerating him for a series of decreasingly plausible reasons, or whether he'll get an IQ transplant from somewhere, or whether she'll just treat him as a second cute pet.

Ruby is almost certainly about to get her first (conscious) kiss from Andy, after a long wait, and she's an idealist. However well or badly it goes, even if she never sees him again after this evening, there'll be a relationship in her mind.

I'm not saying she'll turn crazy stalker or anything, just that this will have significance for her.

I don't agree with the fact that Andy should be an idiot, we can't say that. Well, he is quite naive, but the major problem is that he was misoriented by his friend, can you really blame him for that ?

Naivety to that level requires a degree of dimness. Sure, the Ruby porn star thing was an honest mistake, and mostly Gina's fault, but Gina also pointed out that he consistently misses the fact that hordes of women and men are making passes at him in his day job. We know for a fact that he doesn't seem to realise that Dillon is repeatedly feeling him up on every visit, and for that matter he let Gina get her hands on his junk on a skimpy excuse. At the same time, despite clearly wanting a romantic life, he hasn't been on a date since high school, which at best implies a certain passivity.

Then there were the cock ring gift and the question about getting naked for the camera; even if Ruby had been a porn actress, those would count as crass. And he delivered that line about two gay guys knowing how to put the moves on a woman with a straight face. Honestly, there's naive, and there's too dense to live. Jerzy certainly seems to see the problem.
