Far from it, I think the current arc is not to my taste at all and is just the 'evil chloe' show. Then again I don't find nasty stuff funny in the slightest. Not that I can really sympathise with Layla in any way, shape or form either as she is an abuser of people.

While I'm at it why don't we just call the school in Magick Chicks 'Lesbian Academy' or 'there's something REALLY funny in the water here' 'or home of the worlds most stupid teachers' and be done with it.

Lets face it Brooke, Ace, Tiff and Nina are the only main characters who DON'T seem to be abusing people to get stuff at the moment (not including Kade as Kade is just a cliche now), and Nina seems to be just a touch away from a complete personality change anyway.

Maybe back when the world was in colour, but as far as I can see Magick Chicks seemed to herald a nastier turn in the comic. I miss those days too.

Unlikable characters have always been a mainstay of teen comedies, and everything in general. Why mess with a good formula? If you unequivocally like everyone in the comic, there's no conflict. People need a side to root for. If you had two "good" characters going against themselves, you'd have a lot more fanhate than a situation like this, where a good character has been made evil for a while. Heck, the three chicks from Magick Chicks were villains at one point but now they're protagonists and we root for them against Faith, who's a definite villain. And as for characters changing, dynamism is a good thing. For side characters and minor characters, yeah, that's acceptable for them to be more static.but I think main characters should be able to develop and evolve.

Heck, since the beginning of the comic we've had the following events to the main characters: Chloe started her transformation into a succubus, Ace got turned into a girl and then went through puberty, Brooke started to get confused about her sexuality, Layla made a legit friend for probably the first time in her life. Nina started to act older (at least by starting to like boys and realizing she likes the taste of blood), and now we have Chloe discovering the evil inheritance of succubus powers. Now, some of these events were only temporary, but they still affected other characters. This Doompanties arc may not just change Chloe, it may affect others as well. And when it's over, will things be different? Probably. Will it totally ruin the comic? Heck no. Characters changing sides so to speak, giving into their dark side is a very interesting concept.

TL;DR: Changes aren't permanent, but change is.

Because if change was permanent we'd still have the super-hot bimbo versions of the characters. If that didn't stick (unfortunately), Chloe won't be an evil bitch forever. And remember, it's not really Chloe, it's a Chloe possessed by the purest essence of succubus.

I think we'll see the old Chloe again at one point. The thing is that the current story hasn't really played itself out yet. Things have to come to more of a head. Probably with Chloe realizing how bad she's become or her real friends turning on her because of it. And I assume that it'll all happen at this party that she's planning.

The thing about monster characters in general is that they can be used as metaphors or tools to explore the negative sides of being human. The parts we don't like about ourselves. Vampires are about giving up humanity to embrace eternal life. Werewolves are about the fear of losing control. Frankenstein is about the desire to play God as well as being an outsider. The Mummy (at least the Karloff version) is about when love crosses the line into obsession. As for the succubus, I imagine it will be a handy tool to examine the sometimes dangerous relationship between things like physical beauty, love, sex and power. Not to mention the emotion of jealousy. Very apt things to explore in a high school setting, too.

So, why do I think we'll see the old Chloe back? Because the concept of a sweet and awkward succubus is too funny to go away forever. Just like I'm sure we'll see the strip's resident "cheerful vampire" again soon.

I'm not overly fond of the current arc (succubus-related fanservice aside of course), but as far as supernatural/monster girl teen comedies go, the comic as a whole could be a lot worse. At least there are some likeable characters unlike, say, Vampire Cheerleaders.

On another note, I wonder how long the fire/ice girls' breasts will stay like that? Ace ended up staying a girl for a fair while after the arc in which it happened, and it might be funny to see those two suddenly becoming a lot more popular among the school's males.

i don't think we'll see 'the old chloe' again, but i don't think she's going to stay like this forever either. most likely she's going to come out of it changed by the experience for the better, much like ace was.

I can't say I'm really rooting for any of the three of them. Melissa and Cerise are both shallow, narcissistic social climbers who will do anything to get ahead (although I am rooting for Cerise to eventually come to grips with her sexuality). And Jacqui is just looking for a lay. The only character I've seen so far worth rooting for is Tiff, who seems to possess actual morals and does things without caring about her social status, and possibly Callista, if for no other reason than that she's being used by Cerise and seems to have some image issues.

But ever since the Witch trio debuted in EC, I have yet to see them do anything positive for anybody that didn't somehow profit or protect them. And even Layla isn't that bad (she at least will go out of her way to help her little sister).

Ah, sorry. I didn't mean to imply the witches were particularly heroic characters, but at the very least they're going against Faith who is the most evil, manipulative bitch in any of the three comics. I don't like Melissa or Jaqui myself but do still hope the win against Faith. After all, they've tried to do some petty things to get more popular, but they haven't brainwashed people to be their love slaves.
