I spend A LOT of time on the internet...

...and I'm fortunate enough that I have enough people between facebook and work that share a lot of great links.

EDIT: And I also try to follow some industry folk on Twitter.

Not exactly subtle, but if it's good enough for Scott McCloud to blog about it...

Volcano erupts in Chile
The eruption of the Puyehue volcano in the Andes mountains of southern Chile last weekend provided some spectacular images of the force of nature. Ash covers the landscape and thousands of people were evacuated from the surrounding rural communities.

And now, some twitter words from Deb Aoki.
one thing i hear from japanese editors/creators is "we don't need more manga artists from US if all you're doing is copying what we do."
http://twitter.com/#!/debaoki/status/81845620670861312

they are, however, interested in creators who can take the manga influence & create something that is unique. same goes for US publishers

it's ok to be inspired by manga -- but don't stop at just imitation. US creators are in a unique position to be influenced by many styles

Katsuhiro Otomo and the Perfect Panels of 'Akira'
(Comics Alliance article. Otomo, I should say, is likely my favorite artist and probably the biggest influence on my style. - shutupadrian)
Panel-to-panel progression is closely related to storytelling. Skilled progression will create the story in your head, and turn still pictures into animation. Picking that perfect moment for a panel may well be the most important job a cartoonist has. A talented artist who draws the action half a second too late will create a book full of awkward poses and ugly action. A talented artist who nails that moment, though, can make something fantastic.

Katsuhiro Otomo's good at a lot of things -- pacing, plotting, destruction, terror -- but today? Today, he's good at storytelling. Otomo is a master of the perfect pane
