Why is everyone jumping straight to "The brown girl is a burglar!"? Maybe she just has a thing for flashy jewellery, or it's a gift from someone close to her. Or she's loaded and bought it on the spot. There are a lot of other, less profile-y conclusions one could reach, is all I'm saying.

No, it’s not “the brown girl is a burglar” (which is hardly the prevailing stereotype for elegant “spiritual” south Asian women, I’d have thought); it’s “the slim woman in a latex catsuit with valuable jewellery hidden about her person, in a comic, is a cat burglar”.

I think the real question is, why did you jump on people thinking it, when it wasn't her being a brown girl, but a girl in a cat suit with an expensive necklace on her (awesome parkour skills likely helped on the image).

Personally, my first thought was rich parents and she's a spoiled heiress. :p

1. It's not because she is brown, and we don't lump every brown person in the same category. She is from Indian ascent, so if we were gonna do a stereotype it would be something like "she must be an IT expert" or "she must be a mean singer and dancer" or "she does yoga and knows the kamasutra" or "i bet she eats curry, butter chicken and spicy stuff on a daily basis", not "she is a thief".

3. Notice the latex catsuit, her hiding expensive jewelry in it (not wearing, hiding), her parkour skills, her "Uh...Yes! It's all the rage in Mumbai this season" (it's not, don't ask me how i know), or her "oh... just picked it up somewhere, if i had more time, I'd get you something really special", come on, could've been Marie doing and saying those things with her Oliver Twist phrases, and we would've thought the same...

Actually, if Aaina had been white, we’d very possibly have gone to “car burglar” sooner. She might have looked a bit like Michelle Pfeiffer, Julie Newmar, or Anne Hathaway, after all.
