Even if Eloise weren't in the picture, he still only sees Marie as his friend. Plus, he probably still has feelings for Sandra, regardless of the vomiting incident.

Aw, poor, poor Marie.

Still I can't help thinking that if Alex tells Marie about the happenings her outsiders perspective will see through Eloise's plan (such as it is), or her curiosity will cause her to investigate and find out whats happening. At the very least she's probably known Alex long enough she might be able to knock some semblance of sense into him.

Ah, but Marie is the "Girl Next Door", and the attractive friend that Alex somehow never notices how she truly feels about him. In keeping with the grand laws of romantic narratives she has a good chance for Alex to finally notice her and realize how he feels after several wacky hijinks.

In some cases, maybe. But most times, characters like Marie end up in the "unlucky" category.

You know, having seen the new movie of My Cousin Rachel just yesterday, I can't actually call Alex a totally cloth-headed tin-eared idiot. He's definitely on the Path of the Clueless Idiot, though, even if the protagonist of that movie has ascended to the Invisible Clergy with the title.

Yeah, I actually called it that Alex talking to his friends was one big potential problem for Eloise's masterplan. Quite how it all goes wrong remains to be seen, of course.

Whatever yo do, just dont tell your sister Marie or shell tell everyone else, hell hate you forever and then hell join a karate dojo! and learn magic..

Anyhow, Marie has a great opportunity here! She can nobly volunteer to help Alex test exactly how gay he is really!

My main question about all this (though there are many) is: how could he possibly not conclude that he's bisexual, considering that he most definitely still feels attracted to women? It's possible that he's chosen inopportune phrasing, but it stands out.
