I'm reading this as implying that Lavali is the sort of person who might have become an oracular priestess in some societies, or a voodoo "horse". She's prone to what are, objectively, hallucinations - but they're mostly harmless, and provide a direct line into her subconscious, which can be genuinely useful. She needs to keep off the serious hallucinogens, though; she doesn't need the doors of perception booted too far open.

That or, you know, comedy.

Not that I remember. TCampbell may have hinted that there could be some interweaving, especially as he was the one who got a bit carried away with Cool Cat Studio, but so far as I can see, Giz and Dave have been keeping this a strictly materialist universe, with the supernatural comics existing as fantasies here. (Apparent background guest appearances would be in-universe cosplayers or intercontinuity crossovers.) I kind of hope so, anyway, I like the sense of groundedness.

Of course many of these problems could be alleviated if Lavali got laid, but so far Eva is just toying with her.

I doubt that'll change, absent some kind of comedy weirdness good luck for Lavali. Eva is explicitly straight, and a desperate Lavali is a better source of intel than a happy Lavali.
