or is it one of those the moment Marie coems to the realization that no she don't swing that way, Lesbian Sandra and Lavalli cease to exist and this is them continuing their own existence?

Possibly because she's actually Marie's sub-conscious sending messages to Marie's conscious - so she's as smart as Marie.

Well, imaginary-Sandra is a bit sharper than the real thing - but real-Sandra does have her moments. But mostly, the point would be that Marie sees Sandra as an older, more experienced woman who is in many ways what Marie wants to be herself - including being on the ball and able to cut through bullshit. Mostly, if Marie started doing what she imagines that Sandra would do, she'd become a smart, sophisticated young woman. Except for the whole confused lesbianism thing, of course.

Which is why panel 3 is, yes, great.
