when they did it, it was NOT a case of being horny, but of feeling connected, and that feeling rushed them into manifesting that attraction physically

Pierre's first thought after they finished was "we should do that again", so, yeah, I think they are starting something that they hope is long term and the interest has been mutual since early in the strip's history.

I still think we have a triangle here where Sandra is unaware of Alex's interest and tries to get him to go after Marie, Alex misunderstands and thinks Sandra likes him which deepens his obsession, and Marie continues to not notice that Alex really wants Sandra, but does continue to notice that he refuses to think about her romantically.

Ooh, I hadn't even noticed that part but that's really significant! Sandra is comfortable and secure enough with Pierre that she didn't let her usual nervousness get in the way. Pierre seems to have that way of putting people at ease and letting them just be who they are--no wonder Eloise puts him on a pedestal, romantically speaking.
