I'm now going to guess that today's strip is quintessential ship tease; Gary will be put on a 'plane next time, and we'll never hear any more about this from the writers - but certain fans will mention it on these boards every damn week...

Okay, yeah... even I've gotta jump on the 'he's too buff for a geek' bandwagon.
However, this is her thought bubble, so she could be fondly remembering him this way.
The big question of course is "Did anything happen? (and they just forgot in a booze induced haze? )

I'm pretty sure not, primarily because Sandra still had her knickers on in the morning. (Yes, yes, she could have put them back on - but this is a comic; it does visual symbolism.) Also, there were no tennis rackets stuck in unwise places, Paddington Bear hats, or other signs of typical Sandra drunken insane depravity.chupacabra555 wrote:The big question of course is "Did anything happen? Let us not forget that the Paddington Bear hat/badminton racket were Matt's kinks, not Sandra's. So no matter how much liquor she ingests, these items will not make a return appearance unless asked for.
Sandra, on the other hand, got to know who Gary was from the get go. She knows full well that he's a nerd/geek who loves video games, is incredibly helpful, is insightful, but is also a doormsat. And yet, she still finds herself crushing on him, regardless.
Long story short - it's pretty clear that any hangups Gary may have doesn't immediately affect Sandra's opinion of him.
The difference being that Sonya was only chasing after/wanted Gary based on rumors that he was an excellent lover and later because there was competition. She didn't bother to learn anything about Gary before jumping into bed with him - all she cared about was winning and was disappointed when she 'won', because she only started learning about him at that point.Spidrift wrote: She's probably safer thinking of him as a friend, though. After all, he's about to head back to Montreal. And as Sonya could tell her, the magic Gary woman-attraction field is very effective, and the swirly is fun, but when you get to know him, you find that you've got ... Gary.

<head desk>
<Mumbles: Sandra.. are you fucking kidding me?>
<head up> This has got to be due to the afterglow from last nights fun. I'll admit a part of me wants this to happen, but the whole he is flying back to Canada thing puts a damper on it. While we might not know much about Pierre what we do know seems good for Sandra.
<points to Sandra> Young lady you need to cut that out before you possibly ruin a good friendship.
I think I need more coffee... because this strip is driving me nuts.

Not just the afterglow from a fun night of gaming - but for going out of his way to help her out with her problems (helping her buy her gaming equipment, setting it up and showing her how to use them), teaching her about geek culture, helping her with an impromptu shoot, showing her his art (which she was very much impressed by), helping her re-design Carmen's outfit for the game.
There are many reasons why Sandra would find herself liking Gary and none of it having to do with booze.

Those specific items, no. But the general principle holds; Sandra gets brain-bendingly kinky when she gets horny-drunk. A scene where Sandra has got drunk but the place has no weird and inexplicable stuff lying around, and the man doesn't look sore in any strange places, doesn't look to me like the aftermath of a Sandra drunk sex incident.Fluffy wrote:Let us not forget that the Paddington Bear hat/badminton racket were Matt's kinks, not Sandra's. Don't worry about it too much. It's just the long-building gag about Gary being irresistible to women but not having a clue what to do about it. Mischievous fairy godmothers, pheromone emitters, whatever, Sandra will soon be out of range; Gary is no more inherently likely to end up in a relationship with her than he is with Tatiana. And this strip has the scent of ship tease to me.FlashD81 wrote:<points to Sandra> Young lady you need to cut that out before you possibly ruin a good friendship.

Re: 2014-02-04 Should I be jealous?
I get the impression that drunken Sandra only gets kinky when her lover requests/suggests it (evidence via Matt); so I would say she's more of a accommodating drunk than a kinky one.
Hence why we don't see any weird items laying about or Gary in an truly humiliating pose - all he innocently suggested was strip Nintendo Land, and that's all that happened.
I also wouldn't say that a Gary/Sandra relationship is impossible. Many people all over the world have long distance relationships and they work out just fine.

Let's not forget Gary has/had both Yuki and Kaylee pining away for him. Sonya was never into anyone but Zii, since Zii entered her life. Gary could've been the best at everything, and Sonya would still be after Zii.

OK the coffee is helping and my mood has improved. I'm looking at this strip in a different light now and I see how silly I was being in my previous post.
Gary is a good friend, who is also handsome. For Sandra not to at least entertain a thought would be weird. I think once he is back in Canada Sandra will be able to see that he is just a good friend.
BTW I love the look of Sandra in this strip. She is so damn cute.

There has to be something between Gary and Sandra.
GARY MUST WIN FOR THE NERDS!!!!
besides they would make a cute couple, not to mention that Matt might play a part later

Re: 2014-02-04 Should I be jealous?
They do indeed. But the traditions of sex comedy and soap opera suggest that when such a relationship faces competition from sex goddesses, porn stars, walking private fantasies, and black belts in patisserie-fu, and one party can't afford air fares and the other is too busy to travel, it has problems. It could survive, but lapses are highly likely.Fluffy wrote:I also wouldn't say that a Gary/Sandra relationship is impossible. (And let's face it, if Gary and Sandra part as friends, we'll just get a little whining from eccentric shippers. If they declared themselves a couple, and then Gary got banged through a wall by DiDi or something, the screeching and moaning from the moralising geeks would be interminable.)
As a German tourist office dude once said to me after I tried to make enquiries about travel to Schloss Neuschwanstein, "Thank you; we collect strange pronunciations of that name here". Or rather, in this case, strange spellings. That must be the most extreme yet. (Firefly fan? I guess a Marillion fan could go further.)JoybuzzerX wrote:...Kaylee...

He really shouldn't seeing as even Gary doesn't know he has this nerdy charm about him. But that inexperience in sex might drive the ladies away...
