I just got off work, so saw both this and the Ma3 version about the same time. Fun to see the exact same scene twice.
Pointless arguing is one of the three pillars upon which the Internet is built. The other two are of course cat pictures and porn.

Yeah. I'll assemble a comparative side-by-side of the last panel of each some time, but basically this and the latest Ma3 are the same strip. Comparisons ought to run them side-by-side in their entirety.

Personally, I can't say that I'm overboard about that; the crossover is fun so long as the two strips are interweaving, but this much duplication just feels wasteful. And as Gary and Sandra are going to be in the same room after this, it looks like the duplication may continue. Oh well, perhaps SotR will cut back to Alex and Marie now. Those two were beginning to grow on me, and Eisu draws them well.

This duplication is done for those who only read SOTR... as much as it is waste to readers of both comics there are people who ONLY reads SOTR and needs to know what's up.

Also, you don't really need to do the comparison side-by-side thing, seriously, nobody's really asking for that.

Well, the point of comparison that strikes me first isn't in the last panels anyway; it's about Sandra's appearance in the two strips. It's probably mostly because Giz gives her those dark corners to her eyes, but the Ma3 Sandra looks more snarky and even malicious. It's not surprising if she enjoys putting one over on Senna, of course, but Eisu's version looks more neutral and casual about this scene.

Which does actually reflect the difference between the old Sandra in Ma3 and the Sandra of SotR, actually. Old-Sandra had a definite dark side; new-Sandra is more innocent and naive.

Also, Senna looks a lot more O_O in Ma3 at getting dumped. :P

It's clear that Giz, who's normally the more photorealistic (for want of a better word) of these two artists, does love her manga conventions. So her strips do tend to be punctuated by those cameo insets with goggle eyes or shark-mouth grins. They just look weird to those of us with no more than three or four manga collections on the bookshelf, I fear.

I think I am preferring Eisu's interpretations of Sandra and Senna. For one, look at the differences in Senna when Gary dumps her -in SoTR her eyes convey a more emotion; and in the panel insert it is not just the eyes, but even the mouth and the way the face is set-in Ma3 it seems all buggy jealous rage and indingnation-a caractiture -while here in SoTR it seems more like a natural human response of shock and the jab of pain for being dumped.
I an not saying Giz's art is bad (its the farthest thing from it) but that just I think I like Eisu's interpretations of these characters better.
And I agree with Spidrift due to the drawing differences, this Sandra seems nicer and a bit more naive than the Ma3 one. I think some of the best art so far was when Gary was showing her how to use the Wii controller.
I kind of hope Gary hangs out in SoTR' s a bit longer-because I think Sandra is a good influence on him. In a way she may be reinforcing his otaku habits, but on the other hand she's showing him his skills have value and that his knowledge is not just for people who stay in their apartments and do nothing. Also it mgiht be nice for Gary to have a genuine female friend without all the usual sexual interest. We know Sandra is interested in Pierre, and we've seen her shoot a questioning look or two at Gary (ie back int he Wii remote scene-when he took her arm she looked as if she just wasn't questioning the instructions but his sudden closeness and physical contact) but I think she's realized he's oblivious to anything like that. Having a young woman for a friend who's not obsessed with the SGR and is not his friend simply because they needed someone to help pay the rent, may be what he needs to develop; because I can see Sandra pointing out to Gary that he shouldn't be such a door mat.
On a side note, I think Sandra remembers how Senna flew her off to Brazil and then was not so worried about how'd she get back to Montreal. Part of her motivation here might be she's scene how disruptive Senna's self centeredness can be , and this may be less about sticking it to Senna, and instead understanding the pickle Gary may be in regards to getting home,job, etc.

Oh, just as no one seems to have mentioned it, this very likely implies that the voice calling Gary and Sandra in #762 is NOT Senna.

This strip shows a little more of Senna's internal thoughts than the Ma3 strip. Not surprised to see that she thinks of herself as having patiently allowed Gary to indulge his interests (which she did, to a certain extent) and now her patience is running out while Gary continues to basically ignore her. Now she's got this new job in Japan so she really does have to go, and would prefer to take Gary with her, but it turns out that Gary has...other plans.

I bet Senna can't even remember the last time she got dumped. So she'll become obsessed with with the one guy in recent memory to do so.

If I were an artist who had picked up a new comic, has a wildly different art style from another artist in the pool, and we were running a crossover where my panels were being lined up with that other artist's panel for comparison every single strip, I suspect I would get tired of it pretty damned fast.

In other words, it sounds to me like Eisu's getting frustrated with being compared to Giz every time he posts a comic, but is trying to be polite about it. You should take the hint. Otherwise you risk becoming "that guy," and nobody wants to be "that guy."

Amen to that. And I'm pretty sure Eisu isn't the only one who's getting tired of it.

Those of us who keep tabs on both comic can see the differences ourselves without having the side by side comparison being posted every single time it happens. And those who watch one or the other comic wouldn't care in the slightest about the style differences between the artists.

Giz and Eisu are both incredibly talented artists, and the comparison drops (to me, anyway) always feels like they're constantly being pitted against each other to see who does what better. And that is totally an unfair thing to do.

I'd personally like to request these comparison posts stop altogether, as there's really no purpose to them.
Please, don't come to me expecting me to fix your problems.

I'd tend to agree with that, but to give Giz her due, her Senna in the fourth panel of Ma3 shows a lot of the same reaction. (Even a bad person can be vulnerable to emotional shock.) Where she's showing Senna as more of a caricature, it's perhaps because of the manga influences on her art style.

One other comparison detail; normally, Eisu draws characters standing more upright than Giz - especially Gary, who seems downright hunchbacked in some of Giz's art. However, the two versions of Gary in the last panels of these two strips are nearly identical in posture. I assume this is a bit of conscious symbolism from Giz; Gary has literally just learned to stand up for himself.

I can certainly see that, but the one glaring problem with the idea is that it requires Gary to learn something. Call me cynical, but... Even today's outburst of assertiveness involved Gary discovering that when you're dealing with two women who are both asking for 100% of your time, you have to make a choice.

And yet he said at one point that after updates went up, he waited with interest to see what I'd say about the comparison. Which frankly left me surprised (and flattered) at the time.
