Candy Candy is a real thing? I thought it was made up.

They have to work it to death. We saw it with the Yuki nonsense a while back, and now this. Oh dear; that way, Garfield lies...
And yet, people keep reading and still find such things rather amusing. As long as the masses are finding the jokes funny, they'll keep using that plot twist.

So, if you don't like how they handle things, best get use to it or learn to ignore it - because they're not going to change a working gimmick just because a small handful of readers gripe about it.

Yes, Garfield is quite successful...

Most serial fictions that get into ruts don't last as long as Garfield, though. It's sometimes a flag that goes up at the start of a spiral down. Sometimes.

(Actually, I seem to remember even the writers acknowledging that the Yuki plot had gone on too long.)

Last I checked, this isn't a comic about a fat orange tabby cat that eats lasagna - this is a sex farce comic strip, filled with attractive characters that love to have sex. If people don't come for the jokes/plot, they come for the titties and the sexcapades.

So, if one factor fails to amuse the readers, the other half will. If neither make a fan happy, they move on to something more their speed.

And nothing of value was lost.

I like Garfield
Pointless arguing is one of the three pillars upon which the Internet is built. The other two are of course cat pictures and porn.

I used to like Garfield.

Like, in the '80s...

Anyway, once more, strongly reminiscent of the opening of No Pink Ponies!! :x

It was very much a real thing...
It was also so popular in Quebec it would fall under "shown their work" in tvtropes.

Or you could use it to tell the author's age... It was just that popular, but only for a limited time.

Hey' don't diss Candy. I like it as much as Mazinger Z!

That museum was lucky to be able to show such an exhibit considering what happened to the Candy Candy franchise.

Trivia fact: the latin american spanish dub of Candy Candy was produced in Argentina ( ;) at Shouri)

Heh. The "I liked them back when they were cool" syndrome applied to cartoon strips...
