Gary's gonna be in Paris for six months?
:-o

Of course!

Well spotted, Milnoc (and maybe Spidrift?) and to the authors, VERY Well played!

(I'd just like to point out that I signed up to respond to this supposition...well, that and to express my deeply held hope that Alex's grip fails... :ympray: )

ADDENDUM: Okay, I can't leave this alone - regarding the 'graphic violence' referred to in the reveal event: some people seem a little cloudy on the issue - it's not Chamelia DOING these impalements, maulings & eviscerations to villains - all these gory mishaps HAPPEN TO HER if you flub an acrobatic move, mess up a timed deathtrap, etc. Think Prince of Persia...no, the FIRST one - you know, the one with Jordan Mechner's little brother rotoscoped in PJs having the spikes and chopping blades and whatnot. It's one thing to see bloody ends happen to other characters in a game (whether brought about by you - like the previous comic intimates - or you're just a bystander to the 'gore effect'), but rather another to see these 'overkill events' happen to your alter ego... RELEASE THE MARIE! And here is her intro music.
Personally, for the BGM of "Tristan's Demise at the Hands of Marie and Sandra/Chamelia," I probably would have gone with this track by The Prodigy. (Blame it on this scene from the film Wasabi.)
Many thanks to Raamyah for the avvie!!!!

I do find the third panel delightful. The looks on both of their faces work together so well, "Did that just get said?"
Yeah, you got to love when game designers do everything they can to alienate the customers.

Now that you mention it, I think you're on to something.

Awesome brainstorm: what if Sandra messed him up right now for this, and it gets so much fan approval when the next developer makes a new game, they take what she does and makes it a signature move.
Pointless arguing is one of the three pillars upon which the Internet is built. The other two are of course cat pictures and porn.

That's a very good point -- I assumed the violence would go both ways and Chameleon could dish out the ass-kicking too (we did see her cutting a bad guy's throat a few strips ago), but Tristan is choosing to focus on what the game world can do to Chameleon, not what she can do to the game world.

Sigh. 40% of gamers are women.

It's not a fifty/fifty split, but it's a hell of a lot closer to that than 2%. We exist. We're playing right beside you. There are more women over 18 playing (33%) than boys under 18 (18%). It's teenage girls that aren't playing at the same rate as everyone else, but since adult women will play in such large numbers, that means that girls under 18 are a huge potential market that just needs to be drawn in.

There are a lot of stupid stereotypes where people assume that women aren't playing games. They get repeated in the industry--and I see are getting repeated right here--but it's pretty damn easy to look up the statistics. Pissing off 40% of your potential customers by declaring that you don't care about them is really, really boneheaded, especially with a legacy character that could easily be sold to that 33% based on nostalgia alone.

Hard to remember or even realize that when a guy is stuck dating or married to one of the 60% (the majority, you can see) who think gaming is a stupid waste of time and she's nagging the heck out of him to stop doing it. Plus it's not like they're easy to identify - Sandra definitely gave no clues she was a gamer until this storyline, and often the first time a guy finds out his girl's a gamer too is when she's pwning him at one of his favorite games and he's going :-o :((

EDIT: Furthermore, those numbers for teenagers mean a large proportion of teenage boys are going to grow up never knowing a gamer girl. So when (or if) they meet one, it'll be a total :-o

My younger brothers, with whom I grew up playing video games (we were a gaming family, the house with all the computers where my friends and I held LAN parties), started calling me a "gamer poser" at some point when I was in college. I guess because I switched to focusing on studies and art more in high school and college, I was no longer a REAL gamer if I didn't spend some unknown portion of my day playing games that they believed were "REAL" games (I played a lot of The Sims in HS, but not much else). I don't think they realized how much it made me NOT want to play games or talk about them with them because they would always imply I was only doing it to impress men or to pretend to be cool. I've started gaming more now in grad school and my mom told me that apparently my youngest brother has retracted his "gamer poser" statement, now that he realizes "how cutthroat I play Civ V".

tl;dr - dudes take being a "real gamer" so seriously sometimes...
