Very good art contrast between the two.

Yep, I really like Sandra's supporting cast. Tatiana is fantastic and it looks like Zoe's gonna be pretty cool too.

i must say, the illustration's been getting progressively better in this strip. this one in particular is much smoother & more naturalistic than the very early ones.

Googling to see what the Palais des Congres de Paris looks like - a modern conference centre - I discover that Sandra is being really dim here. Because there's also a Palais de Congres de Montreal, which is also a modern conference centre.

I like the trainer's outfit. Quite stylish and figure flattering.

OMG, is this for some kind of Oktoberfest ? Or will Sandra simply have to deal with (obnoxious of course, it wouldn't be funny otherwise) German tycoons ?
Cant't help to find this a little bit humiliating.

Yep, but there are also concerts and musicals in the Paris one. Le Palais des Congrès de Montréal is great! The French one is painfully dull and utilitaire (couldn't find a proper English word).Spidrift wrote:Googling to see what the Palais des Congres de Paris looks like - a modern conference centre - I discover that Sandra is being really dim here. Utilitarian?
Pointless arguing is one of the three pillars upon which the Internet is built. The other two are of course cat pictures and porn.

My point was simply that Sandra should have recognised the term.

Re: 13-05-17 How elegant
I thought so, but utilitarian appears to be a philosophical/political term in the first dictionaries I tried. I used the old, material one and it gives utilitaire as "functional" which is what I intended to mean, but with an extra pejorative vibe, like "trivial". "Utilitaire" can also mean "utility vehicle" and the expression "bassement utilitaire" is quite common. It could be translated as "despicably functional".
I know, I wasn't defending her here, just providing extra info. I'll do this a lot I think, since it takes place in Paris.Spidrift wrote:My point was simply that Sandra should have recognised the term.

Re: 13-05-17 How elegant
"Utilitarian" can have a philosophical meaning (look up Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill for the history), but it can also have a simpler meaning. It tends to mean "concerned with usefulness and nothing else" (a utilitarian philosophy would be strict and narrow - the greatest good of the greatest number is all that ever counts), so yes, it fits what you're trying to say. A functional building might also be pretty; a utilitarian building probably isn't.

Hell, Sandra has landed in the fashion biz. Google any given fashion week for examples of ... well, practically anything that can be plonked on some unfortunate model, 20% of it NSFW. A dirndl could probably count nicely as "ironic".
