I foresee no possible way that either if them will ever come to regret this decision.

Welp. That solves Ruby's "I need a job" problem. I forsee this ending very badly.

I don't see why, assuming that Dillon can afford to pay Ruby enough to justify the whole thing - they get on okay these days, and Ruby has training in business practices, is generally organised in anal-retentive ways that Dillon just isn't, and has shown that she's quite adaptable. I imagine that this will save her from the worst of her financial worries for the time being, while she gets her live-action yaoi ideas moving as a side project - and give her more contact with professional actors, which could help with that. It might not last forever, but what does?

Not that giving jobs to your friends is always a good idea, but it doesn't have to crash and burn.

The other thing I like here - the way that so much about Ruby comes back to her truthfulness. The first thing that worries her about the preceding strip isn't anything specific, it's that she lied. Also, I'm getting the feeling that Dillon pushing her buttons in the last panel isn't entirely an accident; I think he's noticing that her taste for yaoi is bleeding over into real life.

I really like Ruby's illustration lately, she's become quite the cutie. The big mouth on the last panel was a while ago.

Undoubtedly, she will not get paid much as a personal assistant, but there will be perks. And depending on how demanding this job is on her schedule she could always find a second job to compensate. I know I had to juggle 3 at one time. And even though show business was never a particular business she wanted to break into she is likely to make connections that will be valuable.

And I agree from personal experience working for friends is not always a good idea, but if she can tolerate Dillon's quirks and histrionics for this long she could not do any worse than when Sandra was Senna's PA.

since the manager asked him to get a PA, I can easily see a very decent wage that would not need her to get a second job, she gets her yaoi feed, and that would help reduce(not eliminate it) her obsession about it

the average wage is about 14 dollars per hour

I am uncertain how things work in the Canadian TV & film industry. In the US talent agents get a percentage of the actor's income, but I do not know what a personal assistant would get. I estimate it would be based on whatever the actor could pay and seeing as how Dillon is not a big star I doubt he could pay too much.

indeed. at the moment he's basically an unknown actor, who's just recently managed to sleep his way out of the local theater scene. it's rather doubtful that he's making all that much money.

but then again if i remember correctly, he and amber don't have to pay rent on their condo, so that's a fairly large chunk taken out of his monthly expenses. it might leave him with enough take home cash to pay ruby a semi-livable wage. especially if she continues to live there, which saves her from paying rent either.

Well, Dillon is now getting semi-regular lead work in TV productions, and was lead in quite a locally successful stage show. It's not Hollywood stardom, but as acting careers go, his is going okay. (Over-analysing wildly; note that his agent won't know that the last three lead roles he bagged were obtained by blackmail...) However, even so, and even given that Dillon doesn't have to pay rent or a mortgage, it's unlikely that the fraction of his income that he can afford to pay a PA will amount to more than not very much. The job would have to count as a resume-builder that also covers Ruby's grocery bill. Which is still potentially worth having, of course.

(Looking at it another way, from the point of view of Ruby's conscience, there's a big bonus. She may currently feel slightly uncomfortable about being an originally-uninvited houseguest, and Dillon isn't family even if Amber is. If she's working for Dillon, though, staying at his place can indeed count more as a perk of the job.)

Note also that this is a world in which a successful lingerie model can apparently run her own private jet. It's probably wiser not to sweat the financial stuff too hard.

Amber was a successful porn star, she will not be the type to get "regular acting" that does not pay her a highly decent pay, and with the "contract" she polled out of Nathan, I feel secured that the program she and Dill do puts Dill close to same salary as Amber

I will not be surprised if they get at least 300K per year, and if we go a "modest guess", it has to be at least 100K per year

so I can easily see Ruby getting AT LEAST 10 dollars per hour PLUS(as part of her pay) no need to pay rent, as Nathan paid for it, and neither Dillon nor Amber pay for it except maybe property taxes(which Nathan might pay also under the contract Amber got him to sign)

Ah, the hijinks that will ensure from this. The glorious hijinks. I'm calling it right now - Dillon's going to prove to be as big a pain in the ass as a boss as Senna was to Sandra. He will drive Ruby totally starkers.

Ruby totally starkers is a vision that many of us wouldn't mind, but which is beyond the chosen rating of this comic.

But I don't think that Dillon has to turn into a Senna-esque monster for this to get entertaining. He'll doubtless be a bit of a flake, and there may be days when Ruby is annoyed by his disorganisation, but if she actually gets seriously angry, I think he'll notice eventually and try to make up with her. He isn't as casually heartless as Senna or Nathan.

No, the fun will surely be from Ruby shadowing him at work as well as off-duty. This means that she'll be on-set with him and also Ray and probably sometimes Amber, trying to strangle back her fujoshi impulses during gay love scenes and to restrain herself from telling the director of photography what to do. She'll also become Dillon's interface to Nathan, which should lead to a bit of a battle of wills. This may also lead to her finding out about the blackmail scam. We might also see her, say, befriending Helena, giving us a different, back-office view of Nathan's organisation. Or Dillon and Nathan may find that their respective PAs are fighting proxy battles for them.

Plus, well, Ruby isn't mean either, but she is surely a bit anal retentive. Dillon may be the one who suffers when she goes all Tatiana on his ass - especially once it becomes clear that he does really benefit from her assistance. Bonus points if he thanks her because he really needed the discipline, and she has to spend ten minutes getting over an involuntary BDSM fantasy.
