Gary is a good, kind guy with a magic tongue that treats Amber very well despite knowing her past, and doesn't have much to offer otherwise in terms of interests or a job.

Ray is a good, kind guy with a magic tongue who apparently has it bad for Amber though likely doesn't know about her past, but appears to have a certain dynamic to his personality that Gary lacks. He's also likely to soon become an actor.

To best of Amber's knowledge, no mildly insane best friend has a crush on Ray, and he wasn't a virgin until he was 30 so he doesn't require other types of sex-schooling.

There's no competition. Whether you tackle this by logic or by attempting to analyze how women usually choose their partners, the choice is obvious.
More often than not people fail to see the entirety of the issue, and focus on a single facet of it. Actually, Ray knows all about Amber's past. He was all "Gosh, that's Amber-Amber!" when he first saw her.

Anyway, this feels a chapter end - it's even exactly half-way through volume 2. Hey, we're not going to get a combined SDB/SotR print volume, are we? With 75 strips of each? SotR has also just hit #225, with something that could also just about be a chapter end.

Though I have to say that the last few strips have felt a bit rushed; we jumped away from the pet shop while Ruby's brain was still in meltdown, with questions such as how much Ruby had picked up about Angel and Richie left open, and now we've jumped over the kissing lessons, dodging logical problems like "How did Dillon explain tongue-work as part of acting lessons?". And we've also jumped straight into the idea that Ruby has gone all Zii-like with her 'phone camera, despite her previous worries about consent.

It's the kind of stuttering plotting I associate with Dangerously Chloe; I though that this comic was a little bit more measured. Oh well, I guess that the writers want to move onto something else. I hope that it continues to keep Ruby in the foreground. I can't see much plot to hang on Amber at present; her primary supposed "problem" seems to have evaporated in a puff of smoke. Unless she has to come out as a porn star to her parents real soon now, or her unfamiliarity with conventional dating suddenly bites her hard in the implants, she's having an easy time of it.

Gary is a ****ing irrelevance to this comic, which was explicitly created so the writer could get away from him. If you want to complain about your role model's self-hosing tendencies, you'd do better to take it to discussions of the comic where he's actually a title character.

It is possible that Ruby took pictures with Ray's knowledge, but Dillon's mind was elsewhere when she did, but would of course consent. If not it is a slightly grey area since he knew Ruby was present unlike all those people who were asleep when Zii took her pictures. And it can always be explained that they wanted to see how they would look framed on a screen.

Not necessarily. We do not know if Ray is as good as Gary, but even if he is he may not know what talent he now possesses. Amber is far more likely to hold onto Ray since he is more her ideal than Gary, but even if they do go their separate ways the expectation is that a night with Ray would be excellent which makes him less approachable to women unless they look as good as Amber.

Why do I now have this sinking feeling that Matt also learned the swirly go round from Dillon but doesn't yet know he can use it as a cunnilingus technique? Matt might discover this during the foursome...

I started reading this comic a few weeks back and it's alright so far but I do like Ruby though she's funny and cute. Dillon and Amber get on my nerves sometimes but oh well.

It's possible, but it'd be a bit of a stretch.

But to be honest, I don't think that Ruby went too far over any lines there; Ray and Dillon were only kissing, and from Ray's point of view it was just an acting lesson. (If Ruby let those pictures out in public, though, he'd have very large grounds for complaint.) But then, that brings us back to the problem that Dillon was using what were supposed to be dispassionate acting lessons to get his jollies. (And, yes, Ruby encouraged him.) Ray should really have guessed that, of course - but that just means that Dillon was taking advantage of his (comedy) stupidity.

I guess that the point of that scene was to confirm that, after her encounters with Zii and Angel, Ruby has come to terms much more with her own interest in sex, and has started to bend a few of her formerly rigid rules. We might think she's developed a little fast, but whatever. The question is whether this now gets left there for an indefinite period, or whether we see Ruby going on a few dates with Andy and trying to decide exactly what else she does now want, and how much.

I guess she may get carried away with her voyeuristic side, and start trying to build a library of photos of every cute guy in Montreal, and have to be snapped back to considering their feelings and desires, and whether she should try to rebalance her own sexuality, by Dillon or Amber.

It'd almost be worth the overstretched characterisation, just to see the expression on Dillon's face.

And there I was thinking I was being defensive of this comic.

Actually, I kind of love what Ma3 is doing with Gary just now. But we know that this comic was created largely so that Giz could get away from Gary and his obsessive fandom, so it strikes me as kind of insulting to try and turn this strip into a story about Gary.

For an upright, moralistic character, Ruby has stolen this comic like a professional thief.

It's possible I suppose - Ma3 vol. 7 is due to end in mid-July or so, followed by another Kickstarter, after all. But:
  1. we know the last volume of EC/MC (vol. 4, EC #448-565ish and MC #273-370ish) is meant to be a stretch goal for that, and presumably Dangerously Chloe vol. 1 (I would expect Cassandra's run of #1-200 for this) will be as well.
  2. It would be an odd choice, having done separate vol. 1s for each, to suddenly smash them together for vol. 2.
More logical to just leave SDB vol. 2 and SotR vol. 2 for the Ma3 vol. 8 KS - that's about the time they'll be ready, after all, and there won't be an EC/MC volume involved (plus, although a 150 strip Chloe vol. 2 might be ready, I expect that would come after all the Ma3verse books in the pecking order, so they might just let it run to #400 and do it with Ma3 vol. 9).

I agree with (b) - it'd be odd. But on the other hand, a lot depends on the perceived and proven market for the spin-off comics. It's just possible that it'd be easier to sell a combined volume now than two separate volumes a long way down the line.

And I do hope that we won't have to wait for Ma3 volume 8 to get print volume 2s for SDB and SotR. They should hit that point fairly early next year, whereas Ma3 won't reach another volume break for some months after that... Sigh. On consideration, I guess it's pretty well inevitable. A separate Kickstarter process just for those two books would be too much to hope for (and too much like work for me to wish it on Pixietrix).

Oh well, let's wait and see. The horse might learn to sing.
