How perceptive of you, Ruby.

She is indeed a wonderful artist who could doubtless turn her hand to anything, but from what I've seen, I don't get the feeling that she's very interested in depicting some of those bits in all their wrinkly Lovecraftian glory.

Yeaahhh, Ruby was a bit slow on the uptake there. No surprise though, as this is probably her first encounter with the gender-fluid concept.

Or she's so used to Dillon's antics by now the idea of a guy in a dress isnt weird to her.
Pointless arguing is one of the three pillars upon which the Internet is built. The other two are of course cat pictures and porn.

I don't think this was slow to register with Ruby, exactly. I think that the point was that (a) yes, she's been exposed to a lot of Dillon's cross-dressing shenanigans lately, and (b) she really does try very hard to be polite to people, because she's that sort of nicely-brought-up person. So she did a small double-take at first sight (but not as much as she would have a fortnight ago), then reined herself in and stammered out some blandly polite comments (because saying anything would have seemed rude), then tried to change the subject to take her mind off her confusion... Then the pressure got too much and we got panel 4.

Not as casually accepting as Angel would like, obviously, but mostly an honest attempt to avoid hurt feelings.

??

I think she thought Angie = Dillon than she accepted that concept, but suddenly she realized it was not a guy with a dress that looks real well as a girl, but an actual girl

If it keeps Ruby distracted from inquiring about her date I think she is willing to tolerate the minor annoyance.

Ruby...you just don't yell out this kind of stuff.

This may be the first time I've felt sorry for Angel.

Now I'm wondering how Angel's voice sounds. Does she pull a Batman and talk with a low-tone when dressed in grunge? In my head, her voice has changed quite a bit. Has it for anyone else?

Well, that took time for her brain to process that, didn't it?

I still don't reckon Ruby actually picked up anything about that. Angel merely has to act innocent while keeping Jacob from blabbing anything inconvenient.

Merely.

Nope. Her brain processed that just fine before this strip even started. What took a while was for the resulting emotional pressure to build to detonation point.

The other interesting thing is Ruby's choice of displacement topics when she's trying desperately not to think about the weirdness. Immediately relevant trivia (getting food for Minew), obviously - but also "business". It's familiar, and she feels competent and hence confortable thinking about it. She even thinks of herself as having a "business mind". How and when else will she use this?

if her body calm in panel 2 was not calm, I would have agreed it would have been possible she was desperate to not think about angel in a dress ..............but she was 100% calm

as I said

she accepted "Angel is like Dillon" (Dill put on dress and disguised himself as a girl for the concert) but than at last panel she realized "Angel is biologically a girl"

My mother's voice is actually pretty low for a woman's, and tends to be mistaken for a man's upon occasion. It's something that happens a lot with my family. Despite the belief that women have high sounding voices and men have low sounding voices, there's a lot of overlap.

I think there's going to be some explaining to do when the shock wears off. Just a hunch.
