Don!!! you make it sound like older males shave them
I think most Americans would go with WTF if they showed a female character that is from Europe when she was 16 at an European Beach, not with males having hair there

I believe Don is implying that they were too young to worry about grooming standards.
To be completely fair, I think I was 17 when I started shaving my legs. (Yeah yeah, I know...)

Re: 13-01-15 I still am
Idk dude, I once dated a guy who shaved his entire body twice a week.wiseguy wrote:I have never shaved my armpit hair my whole life
Hell, my brother shaves his arms. Not his armpits, but his actual arms. He just likes the way it feels.
I think body hair is just kind of a personal preference. I am always tempted to stop shaving my pits and my legs when it's super cold, but then I feel bad for my husband and do it anyway. Not that he's ever said anything about it (I actually haven't shaved my legs in a week because my cat Binx scratched me really bad on accident and I'm afraid to shave over it lol) but I actually feel BAD knowing it's there. Which is totally idiotic. But, like I said -- it's personal preference.
Maybe Don's point is that they were too young to know how their prefer their hair? I DON'T KNOW. Don, help me out here, hon.

Incidentally, I rather hope that Ruby does end up reassuring Ray about his discovery. Not because it would be difficult or heroic, or because Ray seems desperately in need of comfort. No, I just want to see Ruby saying "Look, you've discovered something about yourself and sex. That's fine, it won't kill you, and it's up to you whether you do anything about it, but you need to be honest with yourself."
And then I want to see if Ruby can get through that speech, or whether she stops half-way through with an Oh Shit expression on her face.

While that would be awesome to behold I doubt Ruby would start a speech like that any time soon. Though at her rate of growth she might pull a speech like that in a 100 strips or so.

You're expecting Ruby to say that kind of thing ? 0_oSpidrift wrote: No, I just want to see Ruby saying "Look, you've discovered something about yourself and sex. That's fine, it won't kill you, and it's up to you whether you do anything about it, but you need to be honest with yourself."
That's far, far, far, far, FAR too early, I'm sure.

Re: 13-01-15 I still am
She could say something like that to someone else, I reckon. It's basic stuff - the sort of thing that people say on TV shows. She may not have much life experience, but she can bluff it quite well. I'm not sure if she'd put it in those exact words, but, well, look at her speech to Dillon about sorting out his love life.
However, she might well not realise how well it applies to herself. When she gets that, she'll be making progress.
(I'd also be amused if Dillon ever quotes an It Gets Better speech anyone ever gave him. That's something else that'd apply to her too.)

Well, I was not thinking too deeply when I made this statement, but I guess my point was two-fold.Optimus Kate wrote:Maybe Don's point is that they were too young to know how their prefer their hair? I DON'T KNOW. Don, help me out here, hon.
- At such an age, it's reasonably unlikely they would have met any kind of strong influence that would make them (or at least Ray) shave. As in, neither a steady sex partner who may desire this modification, or strong societal pressure.
- Which leads me to the second point. It's left unclear when exactly the Ma3verse series actually takes place, it's a kind of "floating now", but if we were to assume it started at the roughly same time Ma3 itself started, we have now reached late fall 2008. We know Gary is 30 already, so in such a case, he'd be barely younger than myself. Dillon and Ray may be a bit younger than him, but just a few years. Generally, their high-school days would lie in the mid-90s, a time when you weren't surfing the blogosphere all the time (see societal pressure thing above), and also a time when this whole body hair thing hadn't reached the point it has today.

Re: 13-01-15 I still am
nowdays young guys that Don knows shave armpit hair?
USA wise for women
the "pressure" to shave armpits started with ads telling women that it was not fashionable to show hair when sleveless shirt came
in the 1940s with shorter skirts and pants, the ads started the women can't show hair on their legs
and with the surge of porn, (late 80s and early 90s mostly) the start of trimming and shave the bush started, during the deep throat and devil in miss Jones era, the women were still bushy
as far as I can see in fashion info on google
SOME young men are starting to shave it even if their hair is not that thick, while others might trim it if it is very thick, but not shave it.......... has not become a wide trend yet

Really, can't help but find this whole hairphobia thing is quite unhealthy.
EDITED to add "find". I should really reread myself.
