minew is one persuasive kitten.

also, it looks like ruby's moving toward a job-hunt story line. i bet 5 internets that amber offers to get her a job in the industry.

Which industry would that be? The one that Amber is strenuously leaving behind her and that she knows Ruby despises, or the one where Amber is a total newbie with no hiring powers or likely influence?

Anyway, Ruby's powers of rationalisation and self-justification are becoming quite worrying. That level of doublethink really isn't good for the soul. She needs to get as honest with herself as she is with other people. Also, I suspect from the sample frames we've seen that the stuff about her limited finances may tie up to the print volume bonus strips.

Oh, and her expressions in frames 4b and 4c are very cute.

Minew goes right to the heart of the matter. Relentless kitty is relentless.

That's right Minew, you tell her what's up :p

Ruby is a little cute in this one, especially in Panel 4.

Work wise, I think that she might make some progress in a chapter or two at the earliest.

Given how fast time usually passes (or doesn't pass) in these comics, that wouldn't even be too terribly slow. It'll be interesting to see if the writers get much comedy out of her job hunt, or whether they just sort that out off-stage. Someone looking for a serious long-term office job isn't their usual style of comedy, unless they can drag in some existing character - and the only existing character who might be in an appropriate line of work would be Nathan, and I can't see that working as a plot.

I don't know, panel 4b looks like she's finally enjoying it without the inner voice chastising her.

At least she's arguing with a kitten and not a teddy bear. Minew can actually give her an answer albeit one she's already created herself.

The joke's being ... worked through, certainly. (Along with the simple "Ruby gets embarrassed", which we haven't seen for a few days; I'll give it a 50-50 chance of happening when Dillon and Ray appear.) I've not got bored with it yet, but there's scope for a little character development. She does keep getting flashes of self-knowledge - as Geeno says, today, she's had to admit to herself that she might want to keep these books for herself - and in any sort of realistic terms, she can't continue like this indefinitely, even if the joke didn't wear thin.

But handling a long, slow process of psychological adjustment is quite fiddly for a four-panel comedy comic, and I have a feeling we'll see some arbitrary character changes along the way. (Compare and contrast Gary, who doesn't actually change at all, except that he stops getting so many nosebleeds; he just gets slightly luckier.) But I'm still watching to see what happens.

One possibility; some third party does or says something that forces Ruby to declare and admit that her ideas have changed. One possibility would be her parents finding out about Amber's porn career and telling her to come back home from the dangerous decadent city, and her blurting out that she kind of likes it there.

:)) Exactly! Us cat owners know that Minew has almost certainly been crying to be fed, or petted, or both. Ruby really doesn't understand her kitten very well yet.
