Pointless arguing is one of the three pillars upon which the Internet is built. The other two are of course cat pictures and porn.

She is indeed a wonderful artist who could doubtless turn her hand to anything, but from what I've seen, I don't get the feeling that she's very interested in depicting some of those bits in all their wrinkly Lovecraftian glory.

Ruby seems even more damaged than I though.

Oh, I don't know. Massively in denial, obviously, but it's never easy for anybody to completely invert some key element of their self-image. Some of us have taken months over much easier revisions than this one. And she's confused, but she's not actually hurting herself or anyone else just now.

It looks to me like she'll get there in due course - and frankly, it's safer for a naive virgin to discover her libido with a small stack of yaoi manga than with, say, some manipulative jerk of a sexual predator. I'm more worried about who's going to walk in on this scene, because the laws of the comic suggest that it's got to happen, and crippling embarrassment is the thing that's going to cause Ruby most trouble on this journey.

Options are rather limited. To Amber, given Dillon is on set, and while nobody ever locks doors in Mà3, I don't imagine Jerzy (who has broken up with Dillon anyway) or his sister coming in without using the bell, interrupting Ruby. *shrug*

Yeah; one assumes that Amber will be a little preoccupied for a while, and Dillon is off for the day. I could just about imagine Andy being clueless enough to walk through an unlocked door, but he mostly seems the terribly polite sort. The only other outside possibility I could imagine would be Zii, coming round to ask Amber for help getting her head straight after recent developments; cue massive misunderstanding about Ruby's personality...

(Or Ruby and Amber's parents, come to see how their daughters are settling in together. Cue apology from them to Amber about Ruby turning out to be the sort of ... person ... who'd read things like that. But probably not.)

Of course, a lot depends how long Ruby spends with those books. Amber or Dillon could get home at the end of a full day to find her still sitting there. Me, I'd get insane cramp if I tried sitting cross-legged that long - but Ruby is young, possibly limber, and somewhat preoccupied.

I can just see Zii saying "Nipples? If you really want to see the goods turn to page 37." Of course Ruby would not be able to see anything because her glasses would be fogged over at page 36.

I'm actually a bit surprised that she'd be reacting this way to shirtless men. She saw Dillon and Jerzy getting it on and Matt's endowment in the men's room so I would think nipples would be low on causing the vapors.

I suspect that the "nipples" line is mostly in there for the gag - especially a gag about the way that female nipples cause such conniptions among the guardians of our morality (just ask Pixietrix). Because, yeah, Ruby's seen plenty of male nipples before now, and more besides.

But if you want a straight-faced explanation, you can imagine Ruby saying that there is an appropriate time and a place and a context for everything; male nipples in a swimming pool is one thing, in a source of entertainment they're quite another. (Anyway, she doesn't look at books for naked male torsos and gay sex and immorality; she can get all that at home.) Or, to put it another, she's looking for something to which to attach her unformed sense that something immoral is being shown, and the nipples are the best (worst) thing she can find on that page. (Less kindly, she's looking for something to be offended by.)

Or perhaps she's just not a hypocrite at heart; she knows that she'd be supposed to be shocked by female nipples, and why should this be any different?

By the way, I looked up the book that Ruby is reading, and yes, it really exists. The plot apparently concerns a couple of porn actors trying to break into the mainstream film business, who are required to have sex with each other by a controlling director. Ooh, dead subtle call-out.

Double post merged. The DAMNed

I'm quite sure Ruby's going to be sitting there all day with those books. Not like she's got anything better to do; no job to get to, not even a job interview far as we know. So there's really nothing to distract her from spending the day rummaging through Dillon's whole collection (except the occasional bathroom or meal break, which she could ignore), which will of course be spread all over the floor when Amber or Dillon gets home so they'll be no way for her to deny looking at them. Que extreme embarrassment, especially if it's Dillon who catches her - he'll tease her mercilessly.
