As for Nathan successfully using the casting couch - I'm not sure that every character, even in these comics, would be dumb enough to fall for it. I kind of assumed that Amber had a pretty good idea what Nathan was doing all along - but she still thinks in porn industry mode, remember, so she'd just take that as read. It was only when Nathan crossed some kind of line with the twincest fantasy stuff that she really took against him.

I don't usually think of the porn industry using a casting couch, actually. Seems like more a Hollywood or Broadway thing (or, and especially, low-rent fly-by-night basically fake "producers"). The porn industry's relationship to sex (at least at the professional hardcore level "Amber-Amber" appears to have worked in) is a bit different.

Disclaimer: I never worked in the porn industry, and there are several different hardcore subcultures anyway. But the "casting couch" is not a porn industry creation. It's from mainstream theater and cinema, all the way.

Not that the porn stars in the Ma3-verse are particularly grounded in realism...

I'm absolutely no expert on the porn industry myself, but I'm pretty sure that I've heard stories of casting couch practices there. However, the real point is that anyone in the porn industry, by definition, regards sex as business. Amber is someone who has regularly had sex in exchange for payment. Whether or not she happened to have done it with a producer before, she probably wasn't crossing any big emotional lines with Nathan.

Remember what she said to Dillon immediately afterwards? "Welcome to the ugly side of show business!" He looked shocked there; she looked sadly unsurprised.

Trading sex for material advantage is probably older than writing. Actually, it's probably older than speech. They don't call it "the oldest profession" for nothing. How exactly the exchange is negotiated is a detail, but I imagine that a powerful person having an office with a couch in isn't very new either.
