I've always reckoned that "I don't like to lie" was the most truthful thing Ruby ever said as a joke. Why do you think she hates lying to her parents about Amber so much? She an analytical, scholarly nerd with limited social skills; the sort who hate lying, because it's difficult and confusing.

Given that she normally wears glasses anyway, and the frames match her normal pair, I'd assume those are her own prescription sunglasses.

But yes, they do take her from "owlish" to "cool". This is the first time she's looked really good when she's been angry.
