Re: 16-05-14 It is the outfit
The hate for Dillon is STRONG in this forum. Yes, I'll add to it as well. I'm going to stand in line behind all of you who want to slap Dillon upside his head.
OK, whew... now that is out of my system, I can talk about Amber. She really is a good friend, basically asking for permission to chase after Gary.
If this is the only dynamic between these two it is little wonder why we rarely see her in the comic. I feel in the future Amber is going to get her chance at Gary but it might not be tonight.

I don't really hate Dillon. Do I want to hit him upside the head sometimes? Sure. Then again, there are people I love dearly who I want to do that to on a regular basis.

We got a fair amount of love for Dillon at the two conventions we just attended. Mostly from girls but there were guys in there too. I was even asked to sketch Dillon a few times.

Re: 16-05-14 It is the outfit
It is frustrating to see Dillon hold a double standard to everyone and not get called out on it.
- We have Amber who has wanted to go after Gary from some time but can't because Dillon likes him.
- Dillon who flirts with other guys, at the drop of a hat, yet he can't stand to have Jerzy even look at other men.
- He drags Ruby around in order to help her out (become more social) but barely listens to what she is saying.

Re: 16-05-14 It is the outfit
At this point, Amber is the one stopping herself from pursuing Gary.
Dillon is a flirt. True. Jerzy hasn't flirted with anyone as far as I can remember, so we can't really say that Dillon "can't stand to have Jerzy look at other men."
Dillon is more angry at Angel 'cause Angel does more than flirt.
In terms of Ruby. They're starting to get along in their weird way.
They're both learning stuff from each other, and that can only be beneficial to both.

The way I've seen it, Dillon is a (mostly) harmless flirt. I've known people like that. They flirted with everyone even if they wouldn't actually do anything other than flirt with others.

Would this mean we will get to see more of Dillon and Ruby's Comedy Special in the near future?Giz wrote:In terms of Ruby. They're starting to get along in their weird way.

Yeah, while I can understand the reasons behind the "Dillon hate", I don't feel this way at all - I'd be more eager to see if (and how) his nature can accommodate with a truly committed relationship...
Why would anyone whistle at Amber? I mean, she's only an-ex porn star !Iceman wrote:And Dillon just jumps to the conclusion that he is being whistled at and not Amber.

I've always seen him that way and that's probably what he was always supposed to be. But apparently it's already too much close to cheating for loads and loads of people.Artemisia wrote:The way I've seen it, Dillon is a (mostly) harmless flirt. I've known people like that. I also think many people on the forum see him being possessive towards Jerzy while simultanously being a flirt as kind of hypocritical. Not that it's my opinion, I precise.

Re: 16-05-14 It is the outfit
As written, Amber (like Zii) enables Dillon's bad habits. He behaves like an ass, she pats him on the head, tells him not to change, and comforts him when he screws up yet again. She's the worst sort of friend, masquerading as the best. Ruby makes a more interesting character in this comic because she doesn't enable him; she will call him on his stupidities, and even get the odd barb through to his ego, occasionally, when she stabs hard enough.FlashD81 wrote:If this is the only dynamic between these two it is little wonder why we rarely see her in the comic.
The only problem is, that leaves Amber with relatively little to do in this comic. She's really more of an Ma3 character at present, as Zii's friend-with-benefits and one of the queue for Gary.
And personally, I don't dislike Dillon for the flirting. I don't exactly respect him for it, but (a) it's a compulsion that he's now at least noticed is bad for him, and (b) it's his job - it drives chunks of the plot. And after all, that's the point; he's not a real person deserving moral judgements, he's a fictional character with a role in this fiction. I dislike him because he's wilfully stupid,* and his unrelenting campness just sets my teeth on edge rather than seeming cute. The bits of fiction that are about that just annoy me. The bits that are about Ruby getting annoyed by that let me identify with Ruby.
*Ruby's advice to him was perfectly sound, but actually, all she said was "That thing you do that helps Angel sabotage your relationship, makes you feel guilty, and allows me to take the piss out of you? Well, maybe you should not do that thing." Only an idiot would ever need that advice.

I shrug. The charm wore off for me around Ma3 #50. Or maybe around 1980, while I was watching bad TV sitcoms.

i don't hate dillon by any means, i just find him frequently annoying. honestly, i think the character works rather well when he's paired off with a good straight-man like ruby or jerzy.

Dillon will have to eventually mature a bit more, but I don't hate him. He does need to work on a few major personality flaws...maybe that'll help him win Gary in the end

Re: 16-05-14 It is the outfit
Dillon needs to rework his entire personality to ever mantain a good and stable relationship, including much of his taste in men, and he'd have to undergo significant physical changes for him to win a Gary, it seems.Artemisia wrote:Dillon will have to eventually mature a bit more, but I don't hate him. And I used to like Dillon, but it's getting hard to even admit I Ever did.
Amber still maintains a status quo of friendship being particularly important. Even sneakily, she *will* run things by Dillon to ensure he doesn't seem to be straying from Jerzy towards Gary. It's... kind of impressive, but also one has to wonder what Dillon ever did to deserve such faithfulness to his cause.
But as she does so, her "rivals" seem to be getting close to some sorts of personal breakthroughs - and those may lead them to pursue Gary even stronger.
