Thise two are too cute a couple.
Pointless arguing is one of the three pillars upon which the Internet is built. The other two are of course cat pictures and porn.

Good, good. Polish that edge, Ruby; you're stuck in this situation, you should be playing to your strengths.
(In other words, this is the Ruby I thought we were getting at the start - the one the comic needs.)

But which two?vampire hunter D wrote:Thise two are too cute a couple.

Dillon: too dumb or too smart (and playing dumb)?

OK, so Amber and Dillon still do Role-playing from time to time. It's cute but Ruby's annoyance of it is better. I love her attempt to ground Dillon here in reality and he misses the point.

Ooooh, burn! Well, maybe a little candle flame. But Ruby is becoming slightly more assertive.

Points for trying Ruby, but subtlety gets you nothing in that apartment.

Neither, really. Both unconsciously smart and cosmically dumb. Dillon lives in a bubble where everything is pink and fluffy. Concepts that might reflect badly on him just don't exist.rpr wrote:Dillon: too dumb or too smart (and playing dumb)?
Actually, yes it does; it gets her personal satisfaction. Nerd, remember? Being the smartest person in the room is important to her, and she's just proved that to herself. The problem with being the smartest person in the room is that the rest of the room will never get it, so you just have to shrug and say screw 'em. Panel 4 is her understanding that she can't squash Dillon any way that he'd notice, but she knows that she won the round, which will do for now.Odd Man Out wrote:Points for trying Ruby, but subtlety gets you nothing in that apartment.

Oooh, I'd like to leave in a place like this !Dillon lives in a bubble where everything is pink and fluffy
Strangely, Ruby being more assertive gives a sort of "ordinary" vibe to this strip. Just like "classical webcomic stuff", flatmates being snarky at each other.

Re: 04-03-14 No one is perfect
The dynamic should be different, though, if only because the writers haven't previously done much snark in the setting. If Ruby develops a smart-arse edge, but is the only one to do so, she could end up pulling the other two up on their idiocies from time to time.
At worst, this could make Ruby look mean and sour. But ideally, it should let her act as a useful chorus figure, giving the story some spine when the other two get too ditzy. If she just turns into an analogue of Brooke from EC, she'll be fine.
Anyway, let's not get carried away; Ruby still has her own problems to deal with, starting with the next date with Andy (or possibly starting with a bunch of job interviews, if the writers remember why she's supposed to be here).
