It was an easy enough assumption to make since it was base on Dillon's roommate being a porno actress named after a color. A reasonably intelligent person would make the same mistake.

I have a feeling someone is going to leave disappointed and if Ruby obliges then something will ruin whatever Dillon and Jerzy have planned.

A little too much information from Andy in panel 3, I'd have said. But then, I still think that he's too dumb to be a plausible interest for Ruby in the long run. On the other hand, she's evidently beginning to realise that she quite likes the idea of a romantic relationship... At this rate, I'll be suggesting that Ruby can safely use him for practice.

I read it that Ruby assumed that Andy was interested in a date with a porn star - sure, it was an understandable mistake, but he still went on the date, and Ruby knows that males are interested in porn stars - and thought that, now he knew she wasn't one, he'd want to back off. So she gave him the chance to end things then and there, as he wasn't getting what he expected and she certainly didn't want to hold him to anything. Blunt, but politely so, and only fair.

Meanwhile, I'm wondering how sexually experienced Andy is. He gives the impression that he's totally clueless, and he hasn't been on a date since high school, but he keeps talking as though sex isn't that big a deal for him, so long as he doesn't have to worry about expectations - more like somebody who knows that the bits work than a nervous male virgin. Well, we'll probably find out in due course.

Edit: Oh yeah, also - mild irony, ensuring that the comic's designated victim comes out of this strip with a problem. Andy may feel under less pressure now, and so feel relieved, but he's accidentally transferred some of that pressure to Ruby. Previously, she just had to get through the evening politely; it was proving a little troublesome, but nothing she didn't know she could manage. Now, she's suddenly been promised her first (conscious, vaguely eroticised) kiss, which she knows at heart she wants but doesn't have a clue how to handle. Being Ruby, she'll probably now be distracted and twitchy for the entire meal.

I'd say it's cute how the thought of another kiss blanks out the rest of the stuff Andy said, but...

To be fair, he apparently expected to be required to provide sex on the first date, and he's just made it clear that he wasn't simply being all hubba-hubba male about that. (Men are allowed to be nervous about expectations too.) Ruby may shiver when she gets a chance to think more about that, but right now she's trying to process the prospect of a kiss, so she's distracted. And for all her faults, she's generally very fair to other people; she may well decide to forgive Andy for an honest mistake. Especially if the kiss isn't a total disaster.

In fact, if that near-miss, as part of the whole hideous-misunderstanding thing, does cause her to get angry later, it'll probably be Amber who catches the blast. Especially if Amber asks any intrusive and impertinent questions, like "How was your evening?".

Dude, it's probably a bigger source of trauma than sex, except for people like Gary who can get them in the wrong order. Sex can reasonably be negotiated in advance, and people can work out how they feel about it; a first kiss can be impulsive and totally unplanned, and nobody's clear on the etiquette these days.

When in doubt, kiss your date's hand. It's less intimate than the lips, it can be charmingly old school, and if the other party is receptive, you can still upgrade it to something a little steamier.

I love how she doesn't over react despite being confused with her sister. Though now she is all nervous about a kiss is just adorable.

I think Andy is still a little too dense. Maybe he will react better to having less expatiations of the date.

Yeah. Ruby is still coming over as the classic good person who's had some bad breaks. She plays things perfectly in those first two frames; justifiably irritated at being confused for a porn star, but politely ready to call things quits and let everyone walk away with their dignity intact now that the confusion had been cleared up. But now this is turning back into a date, she's out of her depth again.

It'll be interesting to see where, if anywhere, she turns for advice after this. She still doesn't quite trust or approve of Dillon, and she doesn't really think that Amber can handle complicated problems - though she was persuaded to give Amber a chance to advise at one point. Still, she'll rightly judge that both of them will lack insight into problems that involve not having sex. It'd be interesting to see her get into a conversation with Jerzy some time, given that Jerzy does have some experience of being brotherly.
