I'd hope that Angel would stick with 'tried to hit on'; seeing as it wouldn't be a lie (why lie when the truth works in your favor?)

Because, though flirting can be innocent enough, not all couples are okay with their significant other hitting on other people, as flirting can be seen as a sign of interest. (and, in Dillon's case, I think it's safe to assume that's the case - seeing as he's going out of his way to impress Richie by performing a queasy task of hand collecting crickets and is jealous/upset that Richie is more interested in interacting with Abby than he is in him).
Please, don't come to me expecting me to fix your problems.

I'm probably out of touch with the subtleties of the slang, but I read "hit on" as one step beyond "flirting". You know, A can flirt with B without wanting to go any further, but if A hits on B, it means that they definitely want to go further. So Dillon steps over the line in this strip; flirting with Richie was mostly harmless, but hitting on him means he's out to two-time Jerzy.
Which in turn wouldn't be too bad, given that he and Jerzy never said anything about monogamy, if he hadn't thrown that "He's mine not yours" speech at Angel the night before. Or am I reading this wrong?
(And damn - I'm posting about Dillon despite my best intentions. Right, well, I now see him as a hypocritical jerk as well as a boring drama queen, so I'd better shut up. No more posts to this thread, I promise.)
