It isn't, it's that PLUS that same sister who she saw in a porno possibly/probably being held up as The Favorite, the One Whose Example Is To Be Followed by her parents (the presumption being they don't know about the porn career) and possibly the person Ruby herself may have looked up to. Put that together with seeing that porno at a relatively tender young age (13/14 or so), and you'd be surprised how badly that can mess a person up.

I think I'm starting to understand poor Ruby. The guys at high school and college probably discovered who she was sister of and kept making lewd comments every time they spoke to her "Hey, is your sister so kinky in real life?", "Tell your sister I have a present for her...in my pants!","Have you ever made out with your own sister, like she does in her *Wincest is Best* series?"...etc.

No wonder she has become the stuck up asexual man-hater she is...

By the way, I suspect their parents knew about Amber's career as a porn actress, they were just pretending they didn't know to "protect" Ruby (the same way she did to them), and all their constant praising of Amber was just they overdoing it.

Yes. Think about Ruby at that party. Either other kids there recognised Amber, in which case Ruby suffered the worst case of teenage embarrassment in the history of cringing, or they didn't, in which case Ruby was suddenly very, very alone and confused and unhappy in the middle of a crowd of sniggering teenagers.

Then Ruby must have contacted Amber, who presumably begged her to keep the secret. Then Ruby had to spend years listening to their parents saying nice things about Amber, all the while bottling up the fact that this was all a lie.

As emotional torture goes, it's pretty much a perfect ten.

As I've said before, if that's true, think what happens if Ruby ever finds out. Bad enough that she's gone through all this crap to protect her parents from a painful shock and her sister from becoming a family outcast. Now show her that it was all a mistake and she didn't have to bother.

There's just no way it could be made funny.

Mind you, Amber is going to have to come clean with the family fairly soon. If her legit acting career ever takes off, the press will be running stories about her that mention her interesting history.

Yeah, kind of the same logic of girls and "bad boys".
"I can change her! She hates my gender but I can conquer her! And she will love only ME! It's a challenge!" Kinda erotic, indeed. Turning a man-hating girl into one who loves YOU and only you (in a "If it's you it's okay" plot) is incredibly erotic and self-esteem boosting. I suppose. Never had the opportunity to try it IRL (probably wouldn't try, anyway. Fantasies are not reality, etc., etc.)

Of course, there's always the possibility of succeeding "too well" and having things go out of control. Now, she doesn't hates men anymore, but you're just not enough for her, or she has become nymphomaniac.
