Bwa ha ha. Would've served her right if it had been her mother walked through that door, rather than Ruby.

Anyway, ages. If we assume a 4-5 year difference between these two, then Amber would have been the town's 18-year-old hot and wild child just when Ruby hit about 14, and would have been coming to terms with the idea of sex. So you've got a bunch of 15-year-old boys dreaming of Amber as a not-quite-accessible sex object, and hoping that her kid sister was actually on the same path...

Yuck. If that was how it went, yep, Ruby would surely be mildly traumatised and deeply pissed off with Amber.

That's my thinking for why it seems so much worse than usual in terms of sibling disconnect. Or, hell, Amber unintentionally stole the first few guys Ruby was crushing on.

Mostly these two just seem to be completely outside context for each other. One of the reasons I suggest Ruby as eventual manager of adult film stars is that it's one potential area that both could find some common ground. Granted, Amber's mainstream acting could also work but some of the tension between the two is explicitly porn career related.

Stole guys Ruby liked (probably accidentally), attracted guys Ruby didn't - either, both; we're just speculating here. But one can so easily imagine some kind of pattern.

And the usual point of contact between siblings is their parents, even if the common ground is shared exasperation. Unfortunately, Ruby still seems to be deferring to theirs, while Amber has this complex problem on the subject on account of her porny secret.

Sigh. These two really need to talk. But Amber hints in this very strip that that's one thing they've never done. So it's even less likely than usual in the setting.

Not really. You just work your lips and your brain and stuff comes out. Good or bad stuff is the tricky bit.

One possible eventual plot for these two would be an emotional dam burst, I guess; both of them losing it enough to say some stuff that needs to be said, even if it hurts a bit at first. But that could make for some hideously wordy strips. (Which is probably one reason why Ma3/SDB characters don't talk properly much, in fact; they're more of a visual style of comic.)
