The January Haiku Contest!: Entry Thread.

Post by Bear »

And now, suddenly, and without warning... sponsored by The Elder Cave... its the...

First Annual January Haiku Contest!

Thats right, the January contest is a Haiku Contest! Whats a Haiku? A Haiku is a Japenese style of poem with a distinctive 5,7,5 arrangement of sylables to create its distinctive look.

Need an example? Heres everyones favourite forum mascot Frankies entery:

Crispy on the plate,
Porcine gift of the heavens,
Bacon is the nom.

Don't get it yet?

Cris/py on the plate (5)
Por/cine gift of the hea/vens (7)
Ba/con is the nom (5)

So now your wondering how to enter the contest? Its easy! Write a haiku on any subject you wish and enter it in this thread!

And now... The rules:
1. Only One haiku entry per person.
2. Enter only your Haiku. No pictures or bribary!
3. Don't discus the contest here. Do it in the contest discussion thread.
4. Deviating from the rules means disqualification!

Enteries to be taken between now and the 19th of January. Voting will then take place until the 26th, and voting will be in random brackets, until there are only 2 winners left. Prize as always, is a snazy colour for your name, and a shiney rank title. ;)

Previous contest winners can enter, and win, but the prize will be defered down to the person with the next highest number of votes to make things fair to those who haven't yet won anything.

Entry to simply consist of a short introduction to your Haiku concering its subject. IE. 'This is my Haiku Contest entry, its about X', and then your Haiku. Nothing more.

That is all, get Haikuing!

Finally home

As the sunset sighs
Rose petals dapple the lake
Love is eternal

Bit more of a classic feel - I hope. ;)

Edit: Specified flower to lower syllable count - "dapple" is way too nice a word to change. ;)

Well, after wracking my brain for a few days, I can't think of anything original... So here's an old one, having to do with a certain couple of lycanthropes from the Harry Potter universe... :D

Fangs and fur and tongues
Dance wildly in the moonlight
Collars optional.

EDIT: Fix'd.

Find five syllables
Mix them up together, just so
hoping that they rhyme
