Got a quick question about something in the second to last page of PMS, regarding the VC cameo there. As that the online version of this page isn't up, I'll white it out for 'spoilers':

Q: As Steph & Co are walking down the hall on the way to get Katie, they pass Lori who seems to look at them directly. Did Lori recognize Steph there, either directly or indirectly (via a resemblence to her folks or such). And if so, does Lori know Steph's profession? Thanks.

For a vampire like Lori, who likes to keep her vampire exploits far under the radar, suddenly having a group of (crazy) monster hunters walking RIGHT past you in the hall...well, she'd be sweating bullets.

Given Lori's age, though, it is totally possible that she might've went to school with Stephanie and Katie's parents...

There's also another aspect to this, though. Why is J.C. looking at Lori...? What could that be about? Dunno.

Having dealt with teens, that looks like the "I can't believe I actually have to be within a half mile of my parents/guardians at a game. That is so anti-cool..."

Ours pretty much got over that phase by their sophomore year.

You've said that giving Steph her own comic after her brief appearance at the end of Aoi House was almost a given. Did you always intend Vampire Cheerleaders to share universes, or did you just think it would be fun having them interact after coming up with VC independently?

Originally, Paranormal Mystery Squad and Vampire Cheerleaders were indeed separate ideas. I had come up with a couple of versions of PMS and had to put the proposal aside for a while.

We later came up with this idea for an exploitation type anthology book with Vampire Cheerleaders as the main feature with other stories by other writers and artists rounding out the package. (Because I wouldn't shut up about wanting to do PMS, Paranormal Mystery Squad would've had one of their cases in it as a short story or a set of 4koma gag strips.)

The full-on anthology idea never came to fruition, but Vampire Cheerleaders survived and became the lead story in a double-feature book instead that paired Vampire Cheerleaders with Paranormal Mystery Squad. Once the two supernatural series were together in one Grindhouse-y package, it just made total sense to have them share the same universe and play off each other!
