Is it really necrophilia if the person in question is still clinically alive? It's not like they're decomposing like zombies and there's proof that their organs are still functioning(including their hearts).

Zoe said they're undead and Leonard and Katie confirmed Lori was dead, before they got Suki to turn her. So yeah, they're walking corpses. :-??

Undead and dead aren't quite the same. And in the second link Lori was ACTUALLY dead at that moment. As in no heart beat.

Thing is though, her heart is beating here

Diet and sun sensitivity aside, is there much difference between them and people who died but somehow came back to life?

Then again looking up undead on wikipedia lists vampires under "living corpses". But if they have no properties of an actual corpse.... I fear I may be putting too much thought into this.

There's two major differences according to Adam:
  • 1. They're all sterile.
  • 2. They don't age.
It's the reason Lori's been able to relive her senior year for the last two centuries, because she hasn't aged since the moment Suki turned her. And neither have any of the other cheerleaders since they became vampires.

What's with all the spoiler tags?
supremz wrote:How in Gaia's bloody lifespan did you deduce that Leonard is looked down upon or bullied at all? That's a heavy assumption to make, especially when, in some scenes, it is very heavily alluded (if not thrown in your face) that they're having sex with him, and they poke fun at him in a loving way (similar to the way siblings tease each other).
You deduce it by reading the book. In addition to the ones Gotoh had there's this and this and this (they're the ones with superstrength, but he has to carry their bags until he drops) and this.

As I argue here, there's no real evidence that they had sex with him after the first time. Michael Shelfer's view was that the VC were using the memory of it to string him along as part of their fan club (someone who waits on a person in the vain hope she'll have sex with him). You can strain to find ambiguous quotes, even from parties with no direct knowledge like Lita, but this is based on a teen sex comedy. There's no need for subtlety.
supremz wrote:Not to mention, when you take into account how much everyone fights among each other (especially Suki), the fact that they're not afraid to be rough with the only guy in the group shows they accept him as an equal. It's only because he cares about them that he puts up with it, and they know that, which is why they support and protect him in times of need. And since they're vampires, that means they have years and years of wisdom and maturity on him. Surely he would have to be strong or otherwise possess something special deep within for them not to overlook him as a mere mortal.

Getting kicked in the head by a super-strong vampire is a sign of affection? Being forced to ride in the trunk? Calling someone "thrall" or "slave" is not a term of respect. He puts up with it because he's been heavily glamoured. When it's removed he helps PMS capture them.
supremz wrote:The scene where he goes out of his way to get them blood-filled melons and they tease him about being pussy whipped really shows off their relationship, and while it may seem like he's being used as a blood fountain, ultimately it saves Lori's life. The same is true with the fanservice scene with Katie in the time and space series. Why wouldn't she just claw his eyes out if she had no affection for him?

Also, if they didn't care about Leonard, then why did they spare him from being turned into a vampire? It's quite clear that they do, and they know he cares deeply about them too, or they wouldn't have taken him in.
The ones saying that were squad B. They weren't vampires then and didn't know about them. They were just whispering to themselves how oddly subservient Leonard was. That's their relationship. The VC didn't spare him from becoming a vampire, they turned him into a thrall to do their grunt work. Even if Lori can turn males, she wouldn't want a geeky progeny for eternity. At best he's treated like a pet. He's allowed in their presence when he's useful, when they go out to have fun he's made to get lost, as Adam said and also here, where they make him walk home from downtown.[/quote]

To be fair, Suki at least apparently also saw him as a regular booty-call. Alas, this was combined with seeing him as meels on wheels...

Hyper Magi wrote:I honestly don't get the hate on Shinji. You CANNOT tell me anyone his age would be mentally well going through all the crap he has to endure. Maybe you'd be a little "whiny" too if most of your friends and family were dead, you were more or less forced into constant life or death battles that could mean the literal end of the world if you lost... all the while being treated like crap by your "boss". All at the age of... 14?
Probably because he's a deconstruction of the heroic shonen robot pilot. He does get better in the movies though.
Hyper Magi wrote: As for the cheerleaders...

Lori fits "power hungry bitch" pretty well. She does improve later in the series.
The VC's heel face turn is the subject of a whole other post, but she becomes a Mary Sue in the last book.
Hyper Magi wrote:Heather? Yes, but in a different way. She took becoming a vampire a little too well. One of the first things she asked her new "family" was when they were going to kill someone, she showed no reluctance when it came to abusing her family, and she indulged in draining the entire school's football team. She couldn't have been that hungry, she did it because she could.
She does a heel face turn as well, but before that she does feel some guilt about the homecoming game and doesn't want to see Leonard get hurt, so there's some foreshadowing.
Hyper Magi wrote:Zoe? Hard to say. She mostly just snaps at Suki which, to be fair, would be a hard thing to not do. She doesn't seem outright malicious unless you cross her however.
Just ask Mackynzie Ashwood.
Hyper Magi wrote:Lesley is easily the nicest of the bunch. She thinks of non violent solutions to problems and prefers to go with the flow rather than cause trouble. Though one could argue she has a bit too much nonchalance ....
But she tells Squad B not to help Leonard with the luggage and tries to make him strip, even referring to his "baby rattle"
Hyper Magi wrote:And Suki. Well she can be friendly when she wants to and she's honestly too ditzy to be power hungry, but she's pretty damn quick to start a fight.
Another dramatic heel face turn. In the first book she doesn't have any remorse for killing Zoe's boyfriend and brags about glamouring guys into giving her whatever she wants.
Error of Logic wrote:To be fair, Suki at least apparently also saw him as a regular booty-call. Alas, this was combined with seeing him as meels on wheels...
Word of Adam is that happened after the others graduated. Since he couldn't really consent while being glamoured, that could get icky, especially if Suki wanted to get kinky. As tvtropes says A Man is Always Eager (which uses Leonard as an example for webcomics) can be a highly dangerous trope.

It's the reason Lori's been able to relive her senior year for the last two centuries, because she hasn't aged since the moment Suki turned her. And neither have any of the other cheerleaders since they became vampires.
Their bodies appear to revert back to the condition they were in when embraced, which is why Suki's liver kept growing back. This would also mean their brains will never mature and their minds will tend to be in a rut even more than other immortals, which was why Lori kept repeating her senior year. Going into the psychological aspects, Adam said that "Being a vampire overrides your conscious so that it acts on a carnal desire to feed." and "It's pretty common for vampires to go a little crazy after being turned, though, but it eventually evens out." That might explain the sociopathic behavior of the new VC, although Lori still acts the same way after a century. She also has pretty severe anger management problems such as when she tried to stake Heather, although that was played for laughs later. Mystically, they have very weak backs, a weakness to garlic, and an inability to enter places without an invitation. On the other hand judging from Heather's scenes with Julian, they don't seem to the lower body temperature that the EC vampires do.

The trouble with making them just like people with incredible supernatural powers and downplaying or eliminating the negatives like the bloodlust makes them as Heather said, "better than human". Vampires become a superior species like in The House of Night (worse than Twilight). That's ironic in a series that started out saying the VC weren't like the nice vampires in Twilight.

Pointless arguing is one of the three pillars upon which the Internet is built. The other two are of course cat pictures and porn.

They actually are like Highlanders at the end, except they wouldn't want to become human. They've actually gone in the opposite direction, with Stephanie referring to "however many other zillion" Lori's sired. Does this mean Hominus Nocturna is the dominant species in the future?

From Facts in Your Face on twitter, Some of the most common cheerleading injuries are broken arms and busted lips.

Seven Seas is coming out with a manga about a vampire repeating his high school year, but his is a lot different from Lori's. It's called My Pathetic Vampire Life.
Koide was turned into a vampire at the age of sixteen—one hundred and thirty-three years ago. Now, poor Koide is trapped in an eternal loop of the same old homework, the same boring lectures and meaningless tests, and an ever-unquenchable thirst for blood. Koide has repeated his uneventful sophomore year of high school one hundred and thirty-three times, and now, in his one hundred and thirty fourth year, he doesn’t expect things to change—and is frankly too bored to care.

But his classmates this year seem a little different than before. They’re thrilled to have a vampire in their midst, and are eager to do whatever they can to help. Will "134" be Koide’s lucky number or is that just wishful thinking?
Here's a hentai doujinshi about a hot mothwoman with time manipulation powers. Like the mothmen, she isn't inclined to take "no" for an answer. The first two are somewhat horrific and the last is a domestic comedy. Looking at her yandere tendencies, I wonder if Stephanie's parents became unnecessary. Layers of White (Definitely NSFW.)

Depends on if Lori's progeny can sire too. Their numbers could increase exponentially. Even with exaggeration, it seems like there's a lot more than before. If Lori can't or won't turn anyone except hot girls like her, humanity might be like high school, dominated by a queen bee and her clique.

Mark Zuckerberg denies being a secret lizard person.
A 2013 poll found that roughly 4 percent of registered voters in the United States believe that “lizard people control our societies by gaining political power.” At the time of this writing 11,275 people have liked the Reptilians fanpage on Facebook.
I wondered earlier if the majority of humanity in the finale were now vampires. Someone wrote a book about that premise, Vamped: A Novel.
Martin Kowalski is an eighty-year-old man stuck in a twenty-year-old body. He works the graveyard shift. He has a poster of Bela Lugosi on his wall and a box of uneaten Count Chocula in his pantry. He drinks stem-cell-derived blood from cleverly packaged and marketed juice boxes. He is, in short, a vampire. But since his wildly successful scheme to turn as many mortals as possible into vampires -- "vamp" them rather than kill them -- resulted in a new immortal majority, Marty finds little of interest to fill his countless days.
The era of Edward Cullen looks to be coming to a close. The Vampire Diaries, one of the last remnants of the 2000s vampire craze, is ending after season 8. Twilight was mocked in VC, but it won in the end.

Has anyone seen Netflix's Stranger Things? The biggest standout is the character of Barb, played by Shannon Purser. She's pretty much a gender-swapped version of Leonard, without the unrequited love.
Vulture's Brian Moylan got to the heart of what fuels that rabid response, writing, "We are all Barb: Who wasn't that awkward teenager, worried about her station in the scholastic pecking order and trying to maintain the few friends she has even as they use her for rides in her VW and as a convenient excuse so they can sneak out for dates with boys?"
Adam made an analogy with Pretty in Pink:
Consider the movie Pretty In Pink. Molly Ringwald's character (Andie) has geeky Duckie pining over her, but Andie has a crush on and ends up with hunky Blane. So Leonard is like Duckie... there's chemisty due to them being long-time friends, but Leonard's been friend zoned for life.
Ironically, the original ending had Andie and Duckie winding up together.

Another famous 80s teen movie can be used to examine Heather's relationship with Leonard and the antipathy it raises. Ironically enough, it's the black comedy Heathers. In the movie Veronica Sawyer, like Heather, gets promoted into the top clique. Unlike Heather, she hates it, partly because she had to leave her long-time friend Betty Finn behind. She still talks to her in the cafeteria though, and makes an attempt to re-kindle their friendship. In contrast, Heather Hartley is more like Heather Duke, who embraces the popular lifestyle and takes over the clique after Heather Chandler's death, acting just as badly. She was friends with the school pariah, Martha "Dumptruck" Dunnstock, but doesn't try to defend her from the clique's bullying. Her main concern is that no one find out about their past relationship. This difference is why the audience sympathizes with Veronica over Heather Duke, even though the former is an accessory after the fact to three murders. If Veronica had treated Betty like a lackey or stood by while the Heathers did, that would have removed almost all sympathy for her. (Similarly, it would be almost impossible to accept Heather Duke as a hero in a sequel like Lori Thurston was in the last book.)
