I imagine these games are way more advanced than anything in the 80's, though.

At first, I was wondering why all the players were human... but then I noticed the Vulcan and the portly Twi'lek in the middle panel, and started to think that the cat-girl getup in the last one might not be a costume. Still, I have to wonder why there are no cephalopod aliens at the machines... (after all, this seemingly nice world has to have some dark secret, hasn't it?)

1980s? Game Center Crown (ゲーム・センター・クラウン) featured very prominently in a certain 1990s manga and anime, whose primary protagonist's name translated as "Rabbit in the moon." In the manga, the protagonists had a secret base underneath it which was accessed via one of the games (a platform shooter featuring a former alter-ego of one of the protagonists). Apparently the real-life location it was based on is now a McDs.

(Oh, and thanks to the series' wiki for the hiragana and trivia)

Exactly - as staff - but it's only humanoids on the machines.
